No Test Reserves
by omprakash on Oct 07, 2008 05:35 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In the absense of Fab Four, I don't think India has reserves to fill that gap. I agree India has been doing greatwith youngstars in oneday cricket. But test cricket is completely different and it requires class and great technique. oneday superstars like yuvraj, dhoni, gambir, kaif haven't been that successful in tests. I really see no youngstar now has that much talent as sachin, dravid, vvs laxman.

Yea, We are in this state of irreplaceable because we never tried to groom ever.
During the inconsistant phase of some senior players, Series selection should have included some juniors also. It was always Dravid, Tendy, Saurav, Lax. Never was any change. So obviously when one of them or all of them become non-performer, as it happend in SL series and retirement announcement comes like this, We would end up searching for talents.
Again we look at Yuvraj as an option - I doubt he is a Test Player ever. He is a great entertainer and good one day player. But not for test.

Dada was one of the great indian cricketers. He is the one who taught indians that they can stand and fight and if someone is abusing then u can go and slap him... i will say his names should be written as the father of modern indian cricket and the level of confidence and aggression the current team shows.... well done DADA... we cricket fans of India Salute you for your achievements and contribution to the indian and international cricket... you will always shine as a star on international cricket horizon.......

Dada would definitely score a 100 in the ensuing test match.... and continue to play for a couple of seasons, I am sure.
Phasing them - the fab four - out, is a right decision.I mean, dada, kumble, the wall and VVS. Coming to so called master blaster, he would continue to play till his son attain the age of 18. In other words, our board gives him ample chances to show cause his repeated failures. Of late, there is a tendency in him, when not in form, he adopts an injury, this or that way, and sit at home. if Board has got the guts draw them - all the five - at a strench and bring in youngsters, to say yuvraj, sharma (rohit), Badrinath, raina etc. let them too enjoy the life.

by Karthik Selva on Oct 07, 2008 05:32 PM  Permalink

If Dada is not going to be there.. then y all the other fabs.. Expect Laxman none (Wall, Jumbo and even the Little master) is fit to play in FAB 5. Dhoni will follow Dada's strategy to make India to be world's no.1 in Cricket

Exagerrated
by Shivaramakrishnan on Oct 07, 2008 05:31 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think the BCCI and the media have exagerrated the failures of the Fab'4, since one can't perform well everytime. Failures are part of the sports. They are great. And they should have been given some more respect.

It is a pity we Indians think short. We thought Latamangeshkar is the end of cine music. But it not so. Now you find so many new voices, some of which are better than Lata. Madme Lata is great . No doubt . To think sheis ultimate is a blunder. Similarly, we think about these fab four. No doubt they were extremly good for Indian cricket. But to think of Indian cricket to be nul and void in their absence is ridiculous. This nation has so many youngsters given a chance they can prove that they can match, Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly etc. These greats are past their prime and we should inject young blood into the team right now , so taht we can have a good team for next World Cup.

you cannot compare the present lot of singers with Lata Mangeshkar. Its shows your poor knowledge of Music.

well said, Ganguly retirement should have come much early, but thanks to him for making up his mind atleast now. Other seniors including Kumble, Harbhajan should announce their retirement soon to pave way for talented juniors waiting for their turn.

fab 4
by venkatesh yogesh on Oct 07, 2008 05:30 PM  Permalink

Rediff, can u stop this casting of votes by writing it as "beginning of end" and nonsense. The exit should not be forced regardless of performing or non performing. It is the job of respective players to decide their career and not us.

If you dont find them fit please do not include them in the squad of 15 or 11 if you go by the book laws and i dont think the laws are also applicable.

thanks.

Begining of the End
by SHYAMA PRASAD on Oct 07, 2008 05:29 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

For every professinal there is a day to retire. For sports also there is no exeception. This is the time of the begining of the end of the Fab Four. It is better for them to prefer a dignified exit than an insulting exit.
