THE BLACKS AND WHITES ADMINISTER CRICKET HAND-IN-GLOVE
by Sreenivasan Raju Aiyer on Jun 13, 2006 04:27 PM  Permalink

It is countries like India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka which generate enormous amount of money playing cricket. The contribution by white nations like New Zealand, and England and Blacks comprising the West Indies to cricket is hardly palatable. The Blacks of West Indies whose ancestors till recently worked as slaves in the sugarcane fields of their white masters and the Whites who extracted work from them whip in hand still maintain that kind of master-slave relationship even to this day. Steve Bucknor's decisions against Indian cricketers and the decisions meted out by White umpires and match referees is simply too obvious to be raised here. However, one should recall the leadership qualities of two of India's recent captains -- Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. I am sure Ganguly would never have let Lara get away Scot free with his "I stand by my players, my players' words are as good as Gospel" and all that crap. Ganguly would have simply told Lara to shut up. Jeff Crowe, and Brian Lara, one wonders how they can ever be called cricketeres. Lara simply chickened out at the onslaught of Dhoni against his bowlers. I would now remember him for this act of cowardice alone!

Double Standards
by shyam kumar kv on Jun 13, 2006 04:20 PM  Permalink

The ICC has been following double standards when it comes to cricketers from the sub-continent,whereas players from the other parts of the world are let off with a reprimand but our cricketers are fined. This is ridiculous when you consider that the Match referees are former cricketers.

ICC chairman should wake up and see to it that rules apply to all the players irrespective of the countries they play for.

it's disgusting!!!
by Venu on Jun 13, 2006 04:11 PM  Permalink

It is really disgusting for getting like this. High time BCCI takes up the initiative and make a strong representation at ICC. We are the economic power generating millions of $$$ and should definitely have a say in the system. Right from day one, Asians and especially Indians were meeted with such harsh treatment. Wonder if this is act on white vs browns!

MULTIPLE STANDARDS
by SRINIVASAN on Jun 13, 2006 04:07 PM  Permalink

It is a great shame on ICC in letting off LARA and punish Sehwag for excessive appealing. Lara's actions were there on the TV for everyone to see and it is a very gross misbehaviour ,unbecoming of a senior and experienced and respected player in snatching the ball from the umpire and ask Dhoni to go. I would question BCCI ,why they have not taken up the case strongly with ICC. The reasons given by ICC is stupid and totally one sided and is condemnable. I suggest the Media should raise the issue strongly.

ICCreferee
by praveshdiwan on Jun 13, 2006 04:00 PM  Permalink

This is not the first time Indian players are discriminated against. We need not blame anyone except ourselves. We simply dont mind taking humiliation lying down and hide behind the pretense of tolerance and accomodation. We simply stand on the wrong side of the fine divide between cowardice and tolerance. World respects the strong and mighty & not the weak knee'd. This applies to us as a country not alone in sports but all walks of life.

Match refree
by Gopal Subramanian on Jun 13, 2006 03:58 PM  Permalink

Dear All,

From what has been written, heard and seen it appears that the match refree is very much against India. This is clearly a buttering up logic adopted to reatin the prestiious position for the upcoming world cup in west indies in 2007 and the clear indication / signals emitted by Jeff Crowe is that he wants be in the good books of the ICC and the West Indies Cricket Board.

As usual, its we Indians who face discrimination in a different way at the sporting level.

Cheers,

Gopal Subramanian.

Bias in the ICC
by Srinivasan Subramanian on Jun 13, 2006 03:52 PM  Permalink

This is happening for years now!! If you remember Steve Bucknor inspite of so many biased decisions against India (also so many guffah's against other teams) continues in ICC panel of elite umpires, but our Venkatraghavan has been shunted out. There are numerous such decisions. India inspite of being such a powerful force in ICC, the powers that be are not looking into this aspect, perhaps, as they are busy with increasing their stakes.
