Bhutan!! Its HEAVEN on EARTH
by Manish Gupta on Nov 20, 2008 06:43 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Guys Me n my wife went to Bhutan last yearduring the month of december when the election camp[aign was at its peak where the last kingdom in Himalyas for going for democracy with their Kings consent which was quite a wise thing to do after looking at wat happened in Nepal. It actually showed how their king "The present kings father" loved his country "Country and its progress before self. Which shows in his citizens as well who love their king so much that they worship him like GOD. And I can say this coz I did goto many Bhutanese homes n interacted with them a lot. And most of them were of the opinion that they were better off being ruled by their KING rather than democracy. There a re a lot of things which i can share which makes BHUTAN the land of THUNDER DRAGON and a place i wud love to go back to.

It does sound like a unique and beautiful land. Is it necessarily expensive to visit Bhutan as common opinion states?

Well, I am a Bhutanese, studying abroad and like any other Bhutanese, I am proud of my country and our Kings. I am also very much in awe of the kind of relationship that we share and cherish with our neighbour India. But, its also true that not many in India are still aware of where Bhutan is. I did my undergraduate program from a university in India and surprisingly my professors, who had a string of PhDs with their name tags, had to scratch their foreheads for a minute or two before launching into all kinds of guess-modes!

As observed by one of the leading South Asia analysts (an Indian), the coronation event next door was completely ignored by Indian media - particularly, TV news channels - despite the fact that some important diplomats were in attendance, led by the president.

As for the tourism rates, its relatively high only as a means by our government to bring in well-heeled high-end tourist who are genuinely interested, and to keep out the backpackers. But for Indians, I guess, these do not apply and they don't necessary have to visit Bhutan via tour operators and in organized groups as is mandatory for all other foreign nationalities. Just hop in into your Tata Sumos and drive up. You are all welcome.

The hospitality shown by Bhutanese is enough to make us understand the culture of Bhutan. I wish the nation a very successful future under the dynamic new king.

Come to Orissa a 5th Std student will tell u more about Bhutan than u. Its nothing to do with Indian people. You know things when it is in your syllabus basically. Lot of people in bhutan will also not be knowing where Orissa is. So in this discussion who knows what is irrelevant
