I too have experienced numerous problems with the hostile aggressive attitudes of Tamilians with respect to their language. They think it is a sin not to know Tamil

Mr Dinesh, are you really a Tamil?

Virundombal is supposed to be highlight of Tamil Culture. We may have so many difference, but we should respect and welcome any visitor to TN and not demand him or her to know language and learn in 24 hours. Guest is GOD .

I have better things to do than learn Tamil. I thought English was enough as a link language. I certainly didnt expect the hostile stares I was given when I asked a person question in English.

english - international language,
hindi - national language.
tamil - local language.

if i want to just survive happily, english / hindi should work. if i want to make good rapport with the local community, i SHOULD speak in tamil.

now, would you please let me survive at least?

Mr. Nigam Hindi is not a National Language. It is one of the Official Languages of Union of India. I am not justifying that people should learn Tamil when you are in Tamilnadu, but i do see a lot of hype here about you are not given Water when you don't ask in tamil and that is unbeleivable. Do not take one or two examples and show hatred toward the entire community.

Learning a language should be reciprocative. If you dont want to learn any Dravidian Languages then do not push the concept of South Indians learning Hindi. Just as a FYI, I am a tamilian who can read, write and speak Hindi.
