One import thing is seen missing in our discussions... Periyaar has fought for self-respect / Rationality. If you find yourself to be true civilized person, you would never dispute them..those are in very simple terms.. The bramanism, hinduism/religionism castesim are against the self-respect of a person..hence Periyaar opposed them. What is wrong with that..Even if you are a sceintist/doctor, still you are fanatic about your country, religion, caste, language,etc...you worth nothing..that is the very reason Periyaar called Tamil as a barbarian language..
To be a human, there are lot of simple practical methods we can learn from periyaarism..so he is a reformer..

Defenitely you are not a Tamilian, dont change your name and argue here.
He never said Tamil is a barbarian language. All he said is If you learn only Tamil and not learn any other language then you will become like barbarian. Thats all.
Dont take his few words and comment. Read Periyar fully and talk.

Periyar had poison in his veins but atleast in this respect he was right. Strange how scoundrels get somethings right.

Dont need to change his name he was very clear. This guy Nayakar did tell that Tamils as barbarians and Tamil language as barbaric language. If you do not know his teachings then it is your fault. He wanted to side with Britishers and did not like them to leave this country!

Rationalist cannot behave irrationally to suit themselves. If he wanted to convey that we should all be rational , then he should have led a movement of debate and countered everything scientifically. Rationalism does not account for emotionless state. Rationalism if taken to the core, should question you very existence. Why should you eat and sleep as you are anyway going to die. Science and Rationalism have never answered everything satisfactorily. What created the world we live, why only 3/4th is water.. few blind beliefs of some civilization can be questionned , debated in various forums and all peacefully done to bring in change. EVR wanted publicity and being an illiterate chose the masala way of targetting an educated segment.
