Food for thought
by Biswaroop Saha on Jan 14, 2008 03:03 PM   Permalink

In Kolkata we were having potatoes at Rs 5 a kg even a few years back. Now it is Rs 12. As more and more agri lands falls to industry and housing prices are bound to rise further. What good it is to those people who can never afford cars even at RS 1 lakh? Agreed, Mr R. Tata has done a very good job in bringing out the 1 lakh car. He could have done it even better by leaving out those very fertile agricultural lands in Singur. Can he explain why only Singur? Cost advantage to be below that 1 lakh figure ? Then where is the credit? And it is also calls for deep introspection on his part to figure out why for first times in the history of the Tatas, farmers affected by the project are committing suicide and the poor are being raped and killed. I for myself could never ride the 1 Lakh car with a clear conscience!
