There is an anomaly in the perquisite valuation of motor cars when compared between motor cars owned by employer vis-a-vis motor car owned by employee. The current rules put a heavier burden of tax in cases where the employee owns the car especially when the employee buys the car with his tax-paid money whereas if it is owned by the employer, they are eligible to claim depreciation on that as well as the employee enjoying benefit of a lower taxable perquisite than in the former case.
