Actually, money IS a motivator because in a poor country that didn't see money until a decade ago, money drives many things. Also, because of our history and background, money has always been associated with power. Thus, money becomes even more important because if educated people do not have money, they will be ruled by uneducated ones.

Also, India now being a growing country has the benefit of 'goodies' as the motivating factors. However, it takes money to buy quality goods, whether it be food items or child care items or luxury items. Thus, from necessities to optional wishes, money IS very important.
