Games & medals

Sidhu and Gopi have to change strategy and stress more on training widely.
For different games we need to have more training schools with advanced capabilities. Also budget on each trainee on food and Equipment has to be liberally increased. Presently increases meet with increase in number of trainees, expensive coaches and of course on administration and travel of dignitaries of all sorts. We need to change the strategy of allocations and reduce administrative costs.

India used to be ranked between the 4th to the 6th positions on the final Asian games medals table.

Now, after great increases have been made in the budget outlay for sports for several years, India seems to be settling around the 8th or 9th position !

Either other countries have made greater increases in their sports allocations or the corruption in Indian sports has increased further !

Or perhaps, the wag who said that Indians are raxcially among the most inferior people in the world could be right !

ANother way to look at this situation, is that now, with so much money that these top players make, including a Sindhu who is among the top 8 earners in the world as per Forbes, and too much attention still going to cricket, they lack the fire-in-the-belly - to win. For they will get endorsements no matter whether they win or lose. At the same time, some very good performance of the archery team, the wrestlers like Phogat, the athletes like Toor and Deepak....is also coming for the first time. So it is a mixed bag. Perhaps our top guys are ok to be the top-3, but not yet amount the golds. And for sure the amount of influnce the baboos in the ministry and the sports councils in the states have, is just too much for an upcoming youngster to overcome...unless they come from very influential families.

Can you specify the years when India ranked between 4th to 6th? As far as I remember when I was a toddler, in the 1982 Asian Games we were 5th on the medals tally & in the 2010 Guangzho games we were 6th. Other than these two games we were always hovering between the 7-11th position in the last 4 decades.

We do poorly compared to our population for the simple reason that we don't work hard enough & neither are natural atheletes like European, North Americans or Australians are.

We don't do well in most sports where you require continuous energy like football, basket ball, volley ball but where bursts of energy are sufficient like cricket we still do decently.

So don't try to attribute motives where none exist just bcoz u have an axe to grind against the present govt.

      TAI WINS GOLD
by Shilpa Mehta (View MyPage) on Aug 28, 2018 01:07 PM

Its 21 - 13 , 21 - 16 .

May be , if Saina would have played the

finals against Tai , she would have given

better fight .

At least extended the match to three games .

But anyway , bagging SILVER medal itself is a big ACHIEVEMENT .
