Strangely, India's defeat in hockey does not make me as angry, as defeat in cricket does.
Not that I care less about India's hockey.
Maybe, it's the riches of cricket players vs the peanuts of hockey players.
But Indian hockey MUST DO something about re-gaining their lost dominance of the sport.
Coaches have come and gone, but I think all of those coaches must be missing something crucial, and I think they don't even have a clue as to what is it they are missing.
missing goal scoring opportunities in abundance. Top teams hardly missing scoring chances but India tend to atleast 2-3 per match and sometimes even 5-6. One of the worst PC conversion rate. our rate normally in 1/5 while other team will have 2/4. Big tournament syndrome. We tend to lose to weak team in big tournament. In recent time teams like Belgium, Argentina have become forces to reckon. These were no where in world before. They beat India without problem. Match against top team is like India will lose and if they win once in blue moon. In recent time I have not seen india winning against australia in any tournament. Till now we have beaten England three times only since the astro-turf was introduced. In 80's we had problen that there was one astro-turf in India due to lack of fund but now that is not problem still our boys somehow cant match even small nations. Is it more to do with policts and favorism in hockey. ever with weak team wins without conviction
There are more important things happening in this country & the first action to be taken is kicking the PM out. These games are nothing but a distraction.
Need to rework their strategy... even defeating poor team like Newzeland is becoming herculean task. Then to whom they will beat Australia or Holland ?
this team is ranked 6th in the world but just managed to scrape past 7th ranked england and now lost to 9th ranked New Zealand. Over the years, I have seen that men's hockey team refuses to do better in major tournaments. I will not be surprised if they lose bronze medal too!!!

We are yet to come to terms with Total hockey, which requires Speed and trapping skills. We lack both..hence not surprised at the loss..

After 1980 not much to show for indian hockey. we are more plagued by just beating pakistan which is even worst team. real teams are germany, australia, holland. now even beating belgium, argentina, spain is like india doing upset. we beat malaysia, pakistan, rarely england and new-zealand. in major tournament. South korea is also down now and china may become leading force evenn in hockey in 10 years.
