If one compares the performance of Indian Team, I feel it was okay compared to the lack of experience we have with international foot ball. If I say power foot ball, I do not feel so because good foot ball is based on skill. Of course, if somebody is tall that is good but that is not the final criteria. Coming back to the last game, I have seen only last half, I found that our team was playing more defensive foot ball than attacking foot ball. In defensive game what happens is that you can do good defense 70% but that balance 30% mistakes, which usually occur, and definitely you will concede some goals also. So better you go with attacking foot ball, which will also force your adversary to make mistakes. Better way, I feel is that do not give the opponent time to think, which will result them in conceding goals.

I am not sure upto what extent I am correct but I feel this is the way.

I sincerely wish AIFF gives a thought of nurturing young boys from Punjab mixing skillful boys from Bengal, North East and Goa to form a team who can compete in power football. The short stature of present team is no match at all against any of the teams taking part in this tournament. We need boys with proper height and adequately built physique to stand the body thrust of opponent players. Skillful players with no physical strength is of little use in present day football. Even Brazil has shifted from skill to power to accommodate the change. Hence, the AIFF must shift its focus from North east to Punjab and other states to find out boys who can earn fame for our country.

I hope you remember Bebeto and Roberto Baggio. They are not build like Hulk. What you require is skill to keep the ball and stamina to run from one end to another many times. If height is the main criteria all basketball players would have become football players!

Indian are not physically fit for games like soccer. Look our national team captain chettri. He looks like malnutritioned kid. Whearas all players of europe and south america are more than 6.5 feet height.

i beg to differ!! not all europeans and south americans are over 6 feet tall!! But they are strong and skillfull!! have to include meat eating boys like present team like north east bengal kerala and punjab!! also our present political setup especially the earlie khangress plays petty politics by not including NRI'S or PIO'S IN OUR TEAM to improve rankings!!! Danny Batth of English-Sikh descent wanted to play for india but was turned away by our sports minister vijay goel!!Dannie is 6'3''

IF COACH IS CLINICAL IN SELECTING SOME MIDIOCRE PLAYERS MAINLY FROM NORTH EAST THATS WHAT BOUND TO HAPPEN, GHANA HAS SHOWN THE TRUE COLORS OF INDIAN TEAM. THE PLAYERS SEEN NEITHER HAVE BALL CONTROL, NOR POSSESS ANY SKILLTHEN WHAT MATOS WAS DOING? I HAVE TO BELIEVE THAT THE BEST 11 PLAYERS WERE CHOSEN? THERE WAS HARDLY ANY PLAYERS WERE SELECTED FROM BENGAL, ITS NOT JUSTIFIED. ACTUALLY, A B-GRADED INDIAN NATIONAL TEAM SELECTION OF MEDIOCRE PLAYERS MAINLY FROM NORTH EAST NO MATCH FOR CLINICAL GHANA.

India's sporting problem is Indian supporters, whose expectation are based on population but investment is based on Iceland population. How much football is being played in Bengal now is very well known. You must be bygone era to claim so. India got chance to play this world cup only as a host and that was necessary to create interest among young generation.

I agreed with Soumitra. It is not abt North east or bengal or kerala. they hv choosed best. aniket jadhav, rahim ali, singh also there from other parts of india. India played really well. see, columbia thrased out US with 3 - 0. with same team india scored 1 -2. so it is great achivement for u17 team. yes, there is always way for perfection, and upgradation. and indians will go for it, i believe.

Agreed, but the teams and players who are much more superior than us can be compensated with skills, our players except abhijit and komal doesn't possess any good ball control / holding of the ball in the midfield and passing capability, so players mainly from bengal still have skills in their gene, come and see local tournamets I am sure you will be mesmerised to see we still have young guys having gifted skills. Read my previous column carefully I am sure your doubt will be cleared. We are still proud that that Bengal still holds the Brasil of India. If Iraq can beat Germany 4 nil why can't we? For how long we will be satisfied as "acche khela lekin har gaya". Indian football now has great infrastructure, gymnasium, foods unlike earlier days. To some extent we can't complain regarding the infra and professionalism, Indian soccer's main problem is wrong team selection and thats the core issue we always neglect.
