Well, what Buhpathi and Paes achieved is when the also-rans played doubles and not the world's top Singles players! Krishnan and Naresh Kumar were rated highly as a double combo (so also Premjit Lal and Jaideep Mukerjee) in the sixties when the likes of Emerson, Fraser, Laver, Stolle, Roche, Newcomb and Bob Hewitt, Sirola and Pietrangili - all Singles toppers also played in doubles. Similarly the Amritraj brothers ere also rated at the very top as a doubles combo when McEnroe, Chuck McKinley, Borg, Wilander, Edberg at el played in doubles apart from Singles. Bhupathi cannot compare with any of our erstwhile top players. Paes has better record and can be among the very top but not Bhupathi. Raghavan S
