Imagine there are 10000 movie screens in India. Each screen has an average capacity of 1000 spectators per show & each show is running at an average of 25% capacity per show then at any given time of the day 25 Lakh Indians are sitting in movie hall & watching a movie. If each movie hall is running for 15 Hrs. a day then we Indians are spending 375 Lakh “Man Hours” every day watching movies in cinema halls. Add to that TV hours, which would be a much larger figure. All this for “entertainment”. As compared to this figure the time spent on sports field by Indians would be less than 0.05%. If we as a nation are serious in winning medals in International events, we must develop a very serious sports culture. In countries like Australia, Germany, Russia etc. there are more sports grounds then there are movie screens in India & every citizen seriously indulges in one sports form of other. This not only helps country to excel in sports but also keeps nation’s health standards very high.

Addiing to what you said vilas, numerous TV shows for singing, dancing, buffonery etc, which results in parents & children running behind it to for instant adulation , where as nobody wants to do the hard jobs. That is bco, we dont have a sports culture. Instant gratification , fame, money is what as a nation , we are after. In sports there is no instant gratifications. That is why we are languishing at the bottom.
