Bhupati should not be Captain. And if
Paes still better than Bhopana and all other Indian Player then he should continue. Otherwise he should step down and give chance to the better player.

Paes is probably India's greatest tennis player ever !!!
by Shoumit Bhattacharya on Apr 10, 2017 03:36 PM

Indian tennis has come a long way from the times the old war-horses Anand Amritraj, Vijay Amritraj and Ramesh Krishnan used to fight heroic five-setters against much fancied opponents and keep the Indian flag flying. Mostly, the fifth match was not needed because the rubber was decided much before. Then along came a fiery fighter, who made mockery of WTA rankings and humbled many a famous tennis-player, making them bow before the India tricolour ! It does matter that he had the absolute right pedigree, as both Dr.Vece Paes and Jennifer Paes have proudly represented India in hockey, and basketball respectively. It is also pertinent to mention that he was named MVP in 2009 and 2011 for all of World Team Tennis ! He also holds the record (jointly with Nicola Pietrangeli) for the most Davis Cup Doubles wins, at 42 victories. He has very recently won the Leon Challenger at Mexico, partnering Adil Shamasdin. So obviously, lack of form is very apparent for all readers. Some of the nondescript tennis players vanquished by him are Henri Leconte, Arnaud Boetsche, Goran Ivanisevic, Jiri Novak, Jan Siemerink and Wayne Fererra. Which is more than can be said for the current Indian Davis Cup captain. By allowing jealousy, ego and personal business interests to get in the way and divulging contents of a private chat on social media, not only has this person showed total lack of class, but also sullied the name of Bangalore, which is home to a cultured, cosmopolitan and very sporting crowd.

Bhupati unleashed...
by Subrata Poddar on Apr 10, 2017 09:57 AM

It is a sad saga for Indian tennis fans. Bhupathi has definitely let his personal ego (and jealousy with Paes) come in the way in his first stint as India captain...
Paes has a chequered and golden Davis Cup legacy, and had reported for Davis Cup duty after being summoned from Mexico, after winning a tournament. Bhupathi reckons that Paes reported late, and hence loses the right to play?? How farcical is that?
Bhupathi has sullied the honour accorded to him (of being nominated the India captain) by bringing to the fore his personal prejudices. Paes has brought laurels to the country on innumerable occasions, and still has the potential to do so... However, if the Captain feels otherwise, the lease he could have done is have a personal chat with Paes, and sort it out away from the media.

it was a persoanl agenda!
by devegowda mohan on Apr 10, 2017 09:33 AM

Mr Bhupathi's is a shrewd and cunning man. It was his personal agenda. AITF also wanted to this and Bhupathi who was waiting grabbed this opportunity. But Paes deserved better, You cannot humiliate. Bhupathi's clan Bopanna and Sania will be very happy!

Bhupai is a crummy captain
by Bhask Tripathi on Apr 10, 2017 12:29 AM

Bhupati is just jealous of Paes. I mean common - Paes just won a tournament last month while Boppanna won none in last one year. Form should be the only criteria and the man who represented India in so many tough Davis cup ties deserves some respect. Add to that Boppanna and Sania are managed by Bhupati's company. So its obvious there are vested interests to keep Paes out. These third class mediocre like Yuki Bhambhri, Boppanna are no match for Paes even at at 43.
