The only player who consistently challenged DJokovic on all surfaces for a long period is Nadal..in fact Nadal dominated for most of the period except since 2014 when his game went downhill and DJokovic gained the upper hand. Only a moron would say that Fede was more difficult to beat. About Nadal vs Fede the less said the better. The H2H says it all.

Djoko vs Nadal is 26:23... where Djoko has a 53% winning %
Djoko vs Fede is 23:22... its only 51% winning for Djoko and Fede is 35..
If Nadal plays until 35 his losing % will even increase...
So its logical to deduce whom Djoko will consider easier to beat. Nadal may have had the upper hand in his initial h2h but, now its become clear he has become a bunny for Djoko.

Nadal's game against Djokovic went downhill since 2014... and Nadal's age was what, 27? Its agreeable he was still in his prime and was getting beaten fair and square.... whereas Fede was leading in his h2h against Djoko until last year, when Fede was 34.
In the last 12 meetings, Djoko is 11:1 against Nadal... The last 7 matches is 7:0 in favour of Djoko.... its bound to increase.
Djoko's game is getting exposed against players who play aggressive tennis.... I'm sure he will tell its easier to beat Nadal than Fede... also his h2h against them tells so.
Players game can be seen as two periods... one before 29 years age and one after that... I would consider a person becomes more tired by the time he reaches 30... Tennis is a physically demanding sport and many have just started to fade once they are out of their prime... Though players like Connors, Agassi, Fede prolonged their career due to their passion for the game, they were found wanting when it came to winning big titles, especially the grand slams.

Compared to Murray, who is also 29, Djoko seems to be more physically fragile and getting tired quite easily.... If these two meet again in GS / masters / world tour finals, Murray should win... which means there will be a new No.1

Federer had Nadal,Djokovic and Murray breathing down his neck when in his prime ,Djokovic has had a injury prone Nadal ,a ageing Roger and only a resurgent Murray.Am not taking away anything from Stan but he is not at that level .Currently Mens as well as Womens tennis is going thru a kind of crisis where there is nobody yet on the horizon to take over the mantle ..
