Great Scott!

Congratulations! Well deserved World no. 1 to Andy Murray! This was in the making for sometime, really as long as Andy Murray's tennis career itself. The day has finally arrived.

This is probably the toughest era in the history of men's tennis with no less than 3 viz. Djokovic, Federer, Nadal, for each of whom a case can be made as the greatest player of all time, playing at the same time. Since 2006 i.e in more than a decade, there are less than a handful (Del Potro, Murray, Wawrinka and Cilic) who have won grand slams outside of the Tennis Triumvirate. As tough as it is to win a grand slam it is a few orders tougher to achieve World no. 1 ranking because to win a grand slam one has to be HOT for 2 weeks but to achieve World no. 1 rank one has to play at a high level over a 52-week period. Therefore it is not surprising that since early 2004, in almost 13 years, no one outside of the Triumvirate has reached the top spot i.e. until now. This offers a little perspective on what Andy has accomplished.

It's been an extraordinary year for Murray. He has reached finals of 3 of the 4 grand slams, has won Wimbledon, has won Rio Olympics gold, and to top it all no. 1 ranking. He is a Wimbledon champion, Olympic champion and World no. 1, at the same time.

Andy Murray only needs Australian open and French open where he was a finalist this year to complete a career grand slam. Wishing that he will end 2016 as World no. 1 and do one better at Australian open and French open in 2017

I respect your enthusiasm for tennis and Murray; I share yours. But, please do not spam your overzealousness :)

Agreed.

After I hit the post button the comment did not appear and it seemed like it did not get posted. So ended up hitting the post button several times and the comment got posted multiple time. I have seen comments from other users also getting posted multiple times.

Guess there is a problem and request Rediff to please take note.
