We all hail full facilities, good living and position by govt. to all players who are likely to get medals, but we all must oppose the showering of tax payers money in crores by politicians on winning a medal. This is undemocratic and insult to common man who is paying taxes for development and welfare of society.

Cash prizes are an incentive to athletes who win medals because most of the athletes train in poor facilities, are from a poor background, have no career to fall back on if they fail in athletics. So they are taking a big risk by choosing to become athletes, so rewarding them is a good move and will encourage other people to take up athletics. When athletes in India have it as good as athletes in West, you can consider not giving them added cash prizes. Till then, its not a big amount when you consider how shameful that a nation of 1.2 billion cant even win 1 gold medal at the Olympics. Government should do everything to change that.
