I have been a fan of Muhammad Ali ever since I came to know of him as a legendary sportsman. I developed an interest in Boxing as a sport only because Muhammad Ali happened to be a boxer, not the other way round! I have always been fascinated by his larger-than-life personality, his gift for repartee, and for his ability to craft verses (popularly called "doggerel") at will! On the sad occasion of his passing, I present a short poem of mine, which I wrote about him nearly three decades ago, for the enjoyment of all Ali fans!
King of the Ring
Struts he forth in royal fashion, Who for Boxing has a passion; Matchless is he in the ring, Being Boxing's crowned king, Thundering punches does he deal, To his spars, who swing and reel; And whom do you all think could he be Than swift and strong Muhammad Ali? *****
