Women's tennis dearth of talent.
by rajarshi banerjee on Jul 10, 2016 01:19 PM

I find it practically unbelievable, that in the last 20yrs not a single women's tennis player has emerged with enough talent to challenge Serena Williams. After Monica Seles fell apart due to the stabbing & Martina Hingis due to drug abuse, since 1997 for the last 19yrs not one single player from the entire world & 220 countries has produced a single player who can beat Serena or at least compete with her consistently. It is clear that Serena loses only when she herself has an off day which being a human everyone is bound to have once in a while. Even her elder sister Venus would have been invincible unless she had problems with the auto immune disease & well into their mid 30s, both these women show no signs of fatigue or burn out. Incredible perhaps or would I say that women's tennis post Martina Hingis has produced only mediocre players like Indian football standards. Serena is an excellent player-take nothing away from her-but at close to 35 she cannot be so dominating if there is real talent on the other side of the court. Unlike in men's game where a Roger Federer always had Rafael Nadal, a Novak Djokovic or a Andy Murray had a Jso Wilfred Tsonga breathing down their necks, there is not a single player who can gamely contest with Serena & give her a run for their money. Whats happened to women's tennis in the last 2 decades?
