This proves that cricketers are our true heroes!
by sandeep kumar on Aug 21, 2016 08:31 PM  | Hide replies

200 odd people and returns of 2 medals!Also...good to see a few in a miniscule category like the commentors here who will surface once in 4 years just to sound cool about supporting olymipians. Check out cricket forums..there will be atleast 500 comments, proving how passionate we Indians are about supporting people who actually win stuff, and then talk. World no1 ranking, world cups, legends like SRT, virat, dhoni who are respected worldwide. Even Federer said he's a fan of Sachin! No wonder we celebrate cricketers who have brought so much glory and world cups to the nation. A billion of us will celebrate our cricket heroes, as we are sensible enough to know who our true heroes are and who are the people going to Rio just for sightseeing. You can be in that small group cheering these guys. Cheers! Another who comes close is Sania...who has multiple grand slams. Rest are all one season wonders , or they win nothing despite talking much!

L0L. Look at the support which cricket has got, compare with other sports. Cricket is a team game played against very few countries unlike games like wrestling, boxing, tennis, etc. Unless morons start appreciating and recognising other sports seriously, you can come and crib like this once in 4 years.

I agree Cricket is hardly played among 20-25 nations. If we had 100 nations playing serious cricket, then we would see how many world cups would India have won. This is not to take away anything from SRT, Dhonis, Virats, Gangulys, Laxmans or Dravids but we have to accept the reality. Any sport where more than 60-70 nations play the sport seriously like football, tennis, badminton, boxing, gymnastics, swimming, water sports, cycling, Marathon, Atheletics just look at the record Indians have in the last 70yrs. It is pathetic.

we all Indians are responsible for the failure of Indian players in Rio Olympics because of putting mental pressure on them for achieving medal-Dr. Samey Singh

Yogeshwar had promised to bring back a gold this time
by vilas apte on Aug 21, 2016 07:53 PM  | Hide replies

Yogeshwar Dutt had promised to bring a gold this time, instead he fizzled out in the first round itself. Our habit of awarding our medal winners with cash prizes in crores, alloting land of 1000 sq metres or above, or luxury apartments, getting booked for promotional events-earning millions from it, gets into their heads. Most of these medal winners come from rural areas, & coming into such wealth makes them go easy. Instead all these prize money, land & apartments should be kept in their names but they will become full owners when they retire. This will ensure them to strive harder to do better.

As long as there is cricket(played by 10 countries),the soap masala serial of sports,India is not going to shine in true sports.

look from the worldwide perspective towards cricket... And what heroes? Barring from a few developed countries like GBR (who invented it), Australia, and New Zealand nobody really cares about it...

superstition at its worst
by venkatram vishwanath on Aug 21, 2016 07:38 PM

Many Television Channels were showing Puja and Prayers including elaborate Havans being performed in Haryana and many other places for yogeshwar Dutt
's win showing the attitude and mindset of Indians that prayers and not real grit, talent and performance win you games. Sorry to say this but we Indians waste time and energy and resources on such rituals instead of productive work.

What shock ?

Who says its shock defeat. I told my daughter, he is going to lose in very first round. We Indians hype up things too much. He only won a bronze earlier, and i knew that was his best. Rest are all typical Indian media hue and cry. He nvr had any chance for any medal this time.
