We need to set high goals.
by praveen komanduri on Aug 17, 2016 10:22 PM

We had talked about Olympics a lot and had numerous discussions on numbers No. of medals that we are going to win. We have brilliant and excellent players and we thought we will win atleast 10 Nos. But, in reality, the performance levels which we thought will get us medals but, we also need to keep it in mind, like us, many other players/athletes would also do so. We spend very less amount on sports and every one knows the quality of sports facilities we have. Indian sports authorities need to really focus with a vision/goal like how China sets and also Government should support with proper infrastructure. I read in the news paper, we are spending only INR 0.03 per person on sports. Can we think of better results than what we are in RIO Olympics today with these kind of budgets and facilities? Modiji should think about it. First of all, we need to ensure no politicians are involved in sports federations/authorities and put Olympians and best performers in these positions, then only we can expect medals/good positions in sports.

No brief for Beef !
by Bharat Kumar on Aug 17, 2016 04:07 PM  | Hide replies

There are no proteins which can substitute for beef in terms of nutrition levels and build up of muscle volume. The hockey players of Germany, for example, have forearms which are thicker than the thighs of Indian players !

Cow milk probably is better for brains, but not for brawn. One has to make a choice between math olympiad and olympics

Extremely Poor show by Indians at Rio
by SANJAY KUMAR SINGH on Aug 17, 2016 03:02 PM  | Hide replies

Our Olympics participants have extremely poor performance at Rio, Sports ministry should focus on improvement of Sports infrastructure in the country. Sports federations should be free from political interventions. We should learn something from China to improve our sports sector.

The boxer who lost to Uzbek, gave an example of how narrow-minded the freeloading sports officials can get. He didn't get to practice with anyone who is southpaw - left handed. Because the boxers in India don't get an international exposure except for olympics !

Where the players had international exposure like in Badminton and Hockey, we can see great hopes. But then, where physical prowess and stamina is important - for hockey, or for athletics, our kids fall miserably short because of our inferior physique - badly nourished with too much of carbs and very little protein.

With beef going off the plate, we will fall back further :)

Sindhu, Srikanth, Saina, Sania
by Bharat Kumar on Aug 17, 2016 02:49 PM

Nothing succeeds like success, they say. Padukone & Gopichand gave us hope, these kids are taking us to the moon !

Tennis had a mixup. Leander Paes, the 'old' man nixed everyone's chances. Too much of politics dilutes focus on skill and techniques - the only thing that matters. Past reputation is of no consequence. Hopefully, lessons are learnt there

You want her to be the next Saina ??! Then she will only focus on demanding awards, instead of continuously improving her game and bringing laurels to the country.

I hope Sindhu stays the way she is and does not emulate a wrong role model like Saina.
