India's bid for Olympics
by Vivekanand Rao on Apr 17, 2015 11:29 AM

Firstly, if India has so much money to spare to conduct the Olympics, then the money should be utilised for improving the living standards of the poor and needy. Secondly, can the government assure that there will be no corruption and mishandling of so much money?

why we should bid? our farmers are committing suicide daily and we are thinking of hosting olympics !! i think its better if Modi govt thinks of farmers and common man before going for such things which requires huge investment in infra space. first duty is to make farmer happy but if the same attitude continues then whats the difference between upa and nda ? sports authority are nothing but corruption adda. so instead help poor farmers as they have suffered heavily and are still suffering. modi busy touring the world but the need of the hour says its time to go out from parliament and reach out to poor needy farmers otherwise who will vote them.

farmers are committing suicide. so stop all programmes like space research etc. throw away your mobiles sets, tv etc. these have all become possible beause of the space research advancement byour scientists. But stop all these and do farming only.

Olympics in India
by Aditya Misra on Apr 17, 2015 11:13 AM  | Hide replies

With the kind of population in our cities, the major centres where Olympics can be held, it is never advisable to have the games here. Managing the population, and keeping security tight would never be an easy task. Ensuring security of the thousands of players and officials visiting the country would be a herculean task. We have seen during Commonwealth Games in Delhi a few years back, all the pavement dwellers, beggars, etc. were removed and displaced from the city and taken to unknown places. After all taking care of those people is also the responsibility of the govt. And doing so in other major cities would create havoc. Similarly, the traffic movement in the large cities, which is as such, ill managed in all the major cities, would be very, very difficult and inconvenient for the people. So I would say a big NO for this.

Instead we should have a Ministry of beggars and pavement dwellers. right to urinate and defacate in publish should be enshrined in the constitution also. this is the basic right of the poor and downtrodden people.

There are lot of major things in India, which desires high priority like- Health, Eduction, Poverty, Infrastructure & on the top is non polluted atmosphere. If we could not achieve this, then should not think to host such type of Costly events.

No. Now is not the right time. 2024 is too early.
Bidding for 2032 might make more sense. By that time, let us eliminate poverty and become a middle-income country.

Here comes another tuglaqi idea from mr. Narendra modis brain after bullet trains. Pls get jobs for people first and make houses and consumables less expensive instead of talking big and blowing your own trumpet.

3 out of the 5 BRICS nations has hosted or is hosting the Summer Olympics-Moscow(Russia) in 1980; Beijing(China)in 2008; & Rio De Janerio(Brazil)in(would be hosting) 2016.The other BRICS nation i.e South Africa has hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup, therefore India is the only nation in this group, which has not hosted any International mega sports event. So how can our PM be left behind, therefore he has made up our mind to host the 2024 Olympics.
Both China & Russia regularly win about 40 & 30 golds in each Olympics, Brazil & South Africa around 5 to 6 golds in each event, whereas we manage to get only silver & bronze & finish 55-60th in the medals table. India has no sports culture specially in the Olympics events, but since we have to compete with China, therefore we have to host. Our media, our politicians,we are so obsessed with China-look @ our media frequently flashing comments by some worthy about India surpassing China's growth rate in 2015-16/or 2016-17. Our "netas"conveniently forget or are ignorant that China's current GDP is 5 times that of ours. To host an Olympics over $50 billion are required, can we spare this sort of money when over 30% of our population are not able to get daily two square meals, lack primary sanitation, health, education facilities. But since our tallest leader has made up his mind,so be it.

How much our sport authorities are interested in hosting this mega event in 2024 is not known., because only one man's wish counts in this present Gov't , & since he has made up his mind, therefore India will bid, hope that other countries outbid India & give a slap to our leader.
