If Sachin is Bharatratna, then Leander Paes and Hockey Great Dhyanchand must get Bharatratna... Being a Tennis great he never said no to Play for India.. he was always available for India irrespective of ranking.. at 41 he is still going as strong as earlier...keep it up Leander...we are proud of you...

Tennis is worlds No.1 sports... and maintaining under top 10 spots since last 12 - 15 years.. noboday has that potential as Leander has.. the all time greats like Sampras, Agassi, Invansevic perished but Leander is still going strong and still under top 10 ranking...

Leander is a great player ..no doubt.. but dont compare himwith Sampras and Co ...There is a sea difference between playin singles and doubles. India's best ever tennis player ever was Ramanathan Krishan and his son Ramesh Krishnan and Vijay Amritaraj come a close joint second. Leander is not even in that league. So if leander were to be given Bharat Ratna, Ramanathan Krishnan should be given much before that.

that is like saying, you can not do a right think now, unless you correct your grandfather's mistake. Times has changed, we may have unfortunately forgotten some old heros..but u cannot hold back the world from moving forward right, we cannot argue that since they didnot get, paes also should not or nobody in the future can get. All are deserving..greats of different periods..

I get your point. But what I want to stress is that, Bharat Ratna is not a joke and cannot be given to anyone just like that. Sachin getting it, itself is an exageeration and had lots of political overtones to it. And leander definitely isn't a Bharat Ratna material.

my friend ramesh krishnan and amritaraj never won grand slam, may it me single ,double or mix double ,leander have won 14 grandslams leave many masters titles , second to him is mahesh and last sania mirza with three grand slams mix doubles. good thing leander for staying in the game for so many years only legends can stay, there some who retire before they dont retire on high, matina.N also a legend played so many years, after her prime.

Dear Seby ...I reiterate ..in tennis playing singles is far too tougher than playing doubles. You can ask any club level tennis player and they would voice the same opinion. Do you know the real achivements of the trio I mentioned above. Google and find out and you will be stunned. Ramanathan Krishan was once ranked 6 in Mens Singles and was twice Wimbledon Semifinalist. Vijay Amitraj was ranked 16 and reach QF thrice in US and Wimbledon Grandslams. Ramesh Krishnan was also ranked 24 and three time QuarterFinalist.

Also, note that no one starts their career to become doubles champion. They play singles first, and only when they fail, they go with doubles. Leander was ranked 74 at his best and managed to reach only third round of a grandslam once. He did a wise thing to switch to doubles and won laurels no doubt. But I would never ever rate him higher that the above trio. In face, Sania Mirza can also be placed a little above leander, for she was ranked 20s in singles a few years back. Controversies and her pakistan connection pulled her down.

What hogwash! Leander's accomplishments are not insignificant just because they came in doubles. Doubles are an intrinsic part of tennis and in some cases, have more fan following. In singles, he has beaten top players as well. Leander's achievements have not been on the Pro Tour only. He is India's Mr. Davis Cup and has scripted many an epic victory against world class players and won Davis Cup ties for the nation. You say Sania Mirza can be placed above Leander - Get Real! IF you say that doubles cannot be compared with sinlges, then Tendulkar should not have been given the Ratna as well as he did not achieve what he did single-handedly but as part of a team.
