Sarita

The real culprit are the rules of the game _especially the redressel system. How can judges go scot free when there is an obvious injustice done.By, disallowing spectators of being privy/tracking the score-progress of the bout they have also taken away the fun and transparency from the sport. Instead of taking the disciplinary action against the athlete (sarita)- the very same action should be taken against the faulting officials of the game. The newly established rules have done little on improving the game..But, have in fact been unfair to the spectators, athlete & eventually to the sport itself.

That is indeed very well put forth a judgement on this entire fiasco. Whatever the dictatorial authorities of the AIBA would say and do now, it stands clear that the true sport and ultimately sportsmanship in its' spirit and fervour itself has been cheated of fair opportunity. I'm surprised this particular official(some Francis) has used the words 'fair' and 'sportsmanship' when these are the very human qualities that have been cheated and compromised by games authorities (vested interests). Surely this means the players honour and the sport itself is sacrificiable to guard the 'Image' of the Games Authorities of their nation. This is only normal plenary reactions as the (inner guilt) conscience has been called forth of the officials.
I dont think the players should be made the scapegoat of higher officials gaffe. This is really unfair to our Indian player !

Devi represent India not individual!
by Darryl Fernandes on Oct 02, 2014 12:25 PM  | Hide replies

Remember the world is watching how you react to certain situation especially when you are robbed of your gold as you may think! Fair play means accepting the rules and regulation of the game. Also sportsman's are aware of these win and lose situation in sports you must always expect the unexpected! Who said slave dear if this was the case why would Sarita join sports. She is not the first or the only player in the world that suffered injustice in games. Take an example of Arsene Wenger who made English club style as the best 10 in the world but have not won many trophy's like other clubs..he did not cry for not winning the FA cup or league yet he made money and fame as the longest surviving manager in English club 18 yrs duration! If Devi disagrees then she could have don't this legally rather than creating this show on stage! Remember she is an Indian and she represents India!

Not to feel sorry but ashamed of ourself!
by Darryl Fernandes on Oct 02, 2014 12:17 PM

In sports or in real life there is always a defender and an attacker. today the judges use new tactics in the game. its not about giant or goliath day. those days of Hulk Hogan or Darasingh is over where one person dominates the game to take the trophy. Devi on other hand must understand that she could be a defender rather than attacker, since she was more stronger than her opponent the advantage always goes to the weaker side and if the attacker cannot knock out the opponent then the winner is the defender. I am not trying to take sides but sports has dramatically changed in many ways. after watching the match it looked very simple that Devi had maximum punches on the face of the opponent but the defender had not been knocked out which could have been better for Devi if she had done that in the beginning. the opponent won but resistance and endurance grade taking the match to the 4th round and being as fresh as she was from the beginning. another thing is the Korean style was more towards sportsmanship rather than winning the game and her boxing potential and style was very active which possibly could have made the judges observe her endurance and tactically throwing away the benefit of doubt that Devi was not really giving in 100% punches to end the show. for Devi I give full marks but if that was the case then Devi could have won by points since she had maximum punches on the Korean. I feel that points were given as % basis and not about who is good.

No, Sarita did not abuse the spirit of fair-play and sportsmanship of the Olympic Movement. The judges of the game did! Sarita came to the podium, congratulated the other winners and did not accept the medal. Everybody has the right to accept or deny awards and medals. It is within her right to protest against unfairness and injustice. She is no slave of AIBT.

Action against Sarita Devi
by natarajan iyer on Oct 02, 2014 12:07 PM

It is very easy to contemplate taking action .But a sensible association should go through the video with third party umpires and decide whether it is proper to take action .The umpires should be investigated nd then only action against her contemplated .
Hope the Socalled International association follows this procedure .Otherwise ,they can be termed Authoritative and Arbitrary .

Fair Play?? Hello!
by Siva Subramaniyan on Oct 02, 2014 11:43 AM

In this regard, as the Technical Delegate, I had to request OCA to review this incident, so any boxer or athlete in other sports will not follow in her footsteps by respecting the spirit of fair-play and sportsmanship of the Olympic Movement," added Francis.

Dude.... her remorse is that it is not fair play.

Sarita's reaction
by Thomas Chacko on Oct 02, 2014 11:43 AM

It is simply mindless and atrocious that the professional kings of boxing, not its actual practitioners who shed their blood and sweat are sitting in judgement and passing unfair judgments. They want to further victimize a victim of incorrect refereeing instead of probing whether the referees, who have high moral responsibility to uphold fairness in sports, had erred grievously. What is wrong with a sportsperson's expressing her agony by returning the medal. She felt she had been cheated out of the victory she deserved. Prove to her that she didn't deserve to win instead of charging her with indiscipline.Equally, shoe the referees how badly they had erred or how clearly they were in the right.

SARITA WINS

Sarita Wins

Sarita, you are the winner! We are proud of you.
Come on India, back her up. India needs an explanation from Asian Games Organisors, AIBA and Indian officials accompanying the team.
Whatever happens in Asian Games, she should be awarded highest sports award by Indian Government.
Priyanka Chopra, please ask the producer of Mary Kom to make another movie “SARITA THE STAR”
