Great achievement...
by kartikeya on May 19, 2014 02:47 PM

It is indeed a great achievement for Anand at the age of 44 to defeat all the other younger contenders to gain the right to face Carlsen in the next world championship.

Anand has won the world championship 5 times, one short of the all-time record held by Kasparov.

It will be refreshing to see Anand as a challenger again, and chess enthusiasts will be privileged to see high voltage chess games in the coming World Championship.

anand vs carlson
by raja garaga on Apr 02, 2014 09:11 AM

i firmly think anand is destined to get back is world championship against carlson. Did anybody think anand will bounce back like this is candidates tournament and win it without losing a match. Even though a showed signs of coming back to in the previous tournament he flattered in the middle. this time he was in different league. To lose the world championship to carlson and to emerge as a challenger in the very next year itself show he is destined to claim is world championship. this time he will better prepared than carlson.
We have to see Carlson cope with the pressure of defending his world championship. no doubt he is great player and achieved every thing in chess at very very early age.

MAGNUS THE DREADED LION KING OF THE WORLD'S GM FRATERNITY ?

Simply fantastic but unbelievable! Whoever would have thought after the humiliating loss in the world championship match in Chennai with Magnus Carlson and the subsequent poor form that Anand could have pulled off this miracle ! Yes, it is nothing less than a near miracle and only Anand could have done it given his record of wins in the world champion on multiple occasions to remain on the top of the world for so many years ! The question that is uppermost in everyone’s mind is not just that if Anand could regain the title but how good a fight he could come up with ? One thing for sure is that unless Anand manages to force a decisive win In the middle games as he did in candidate tournament he stands little chance if Magnus drags results to end game as it happened during the matches in Chennai. In fact the entire course and results of candidates tournament reminds one of the old Panchatantra story about the much feared and dreaded Lion King no one from the animal kingdom would dare to face ? With due respect to Ananad’s abilities and w/o taking away any credit from his efforts from the “Candiddates” one wonders if the entire GM fraternity of the world developed a cold feet at the prospect of taking on a brilliant Magnus and have set up to pass on the responsibility conveniently at least for another year to the brave Vishwanathan Anand ?

The championship Anand lost was not from fearing Carlsen or something Carlsen did. It was set in motion long before that.

The second time, Anand will have none of that burden. So, carlsen needs to play really well to win. Otherwise the tiger will be back on top.
