First Team to be eliminated
by Pradeep RajagopalaPanicker on Jun 19, 2014 04:42 PM

Normally reigning champions at least carry on to the round of 16 . France failed to do so in 2002, however they still had a mathematical chance till their last match to qualify for next round .
Sadly Spain do not stand any chance as Chile and Netherlands with 2 wins each have already qualified . Spain also becomes the first team to know that they have been eliminated from the World Cup (along with Australia) ,Probably a new dubious first for reigning champions .

SPAIN GAVE UP
by Ashok Lulla on Jun 19, 2014 03:21 PM

Post-Netherlands' game, the Spanish did not have the stomach for a fight. And the fact that they stepped on the field with IKER CASILLAS, the most demoralised goalie in Brazil 2014, tells you that they had virtually conceded the match long before they came on to the field.

Listless performance
by Kunal Dar on Jun 19, 2014 01:59 PM

Its a sad end to a great era of football exhibited by the Spaniards. But right from the outset the team looked listless and totally aloof as they were never interested to defend the coveted title.Instead dwelling into what all went wrong,I think the major issue with the Spainish team was there lack of sel belief & motivation. Two outings showed that they were playing like minnows who were elated to have qualified for the WC and were happy to soak in the color, passion& fervour associated with this big beautiful competition.

A ball is Game anyway !
by sanjiv on Jun 19, 2014 11:04 AM  | Hide replies

We have heard lot about the Ball games but the midfielders are often replaced by the majority of Indian mango man striving hard for their good luck by looking at the sideways & shortcuts called Modi ! The good old days will never be back , least we can keep counting on the other side of same coin tossed at us .

C'mon man look at the match itenerary. If Brazil and germany becomes respective group Champions (which most likely they would be, then they will meet in the finals. So no chance of them meeting in the semis.
