Scolari standing 4' above ground till the semis 7-1 battering by Germany seems to have finally come down with feet firmly planted on earth. Perhaps he is counting on the lack of enough motivation of the Dutch to play for the 3rd spot help his side a consolation win! Evidently Scolari is banking on this win to assuage the hurt psyche of the nation in mourning. The problem for Scolari is while even a win at best could get him some derisive appreciation but a loss could prove even worse than the 7-1 humiliation. Scolari cannot blame anyone else but himself for the grief he has brought on himself and the nation. The way he has gone about the entire campaign of hype and deceit aided by the bookies, punters and above all by the world media projecting a half cooked Brazilian side as potential world beaters has been simply astounding! No wonder the Brazilian weakness were exposed to the point of utter embarrassment of the highly charged nation high on confidence and hope of winning the WC the moment they were confronted by one of the stronger side !
I agree with Van Gaal that 3-4 place is totally pointless, academic game no one is interested in. The losing semifinalists are actually known as semifinalists in a World Cup which is an achievement in itself. Nothing ever is mentioned about 3-4 place game and only two finalists directly qualifies for the next World Cup.
