Though Anand has lost the title of the world champion, he still remains a great champion nonetheless.
To have come from humble beginnings with no resources or institutional support in India, he still accomplished great feats in chess and defeated players who enjoyed tremondous resources and institutional support as in Russia and Europe and the U.S.
To have become the world champion and retained the title for 4 terms is a great achievement in itself.
He was also the world rapid chess champion in 2003 and is considered the greatest rapid chess player of all times.
Perhaps the greatest tribute to him was paid by Kasparov himself, his greatest rival and considered by many to be the greatest chess player ever as well.
'Imagine if Anand was actually born in the Soviet Union; how much more dangerous he would have become.'
I predicted your victory about six months ago. When you wanted the games to be split between venues in India and Norway, I had stated that the best thing for you would be to go to Anand's hometown of Chennai and capture the World Chess Champion Title in a victorious fashion. Since chess is a game involving kings and queens, the challenger's victory is sweeter when it comes by defeating the current champion in his hometown. Now, deliver the "coup de grace" with a final victory in the next game with black pieces. You can do it!!!!

In Spain, where Anand resides, bull fighting is a national sport. When the matador is victorious, he is merciful and delivers the "Coup de Grace" to relieve the bull of his suffering. So be merciful like the matador.

..so trying to play over/analyze a game is to find faults? either way, a blunder is a blunder.

Then Carlsen can play Qd1 which will allow him to go position Qh5. So the match can still go on with little advantage to Carlsen.

Rohit, Good suggestion. But after 28. Bf1 Qd1 29. Rh4 Qh5 30. KxQh5 Black is left with check mate in 2. Black cannot move the knight on e8, and so Rf8 cannot move. Nothing much left for black.. correct me if I'm wrong.

your question was answered aptly by carlsen himself in the press conference, 28. Bf1 Qd1 29. Rh4 Qh5 30. Nxh5 gxh5 31. Rxh5 Bf5

Exactly as mentioned by dreamer formerlytaklu the game can just go on like 28. Bf1 Qd1 29. Rh4 Qh5 30. Nxh5 gxh5 31. Rxh5 Bf5 32. g6 Bxg6 33. Rg5 Nxf6 and it will keep going

Friends.. forgive my ignorance. I still see a position. 28. Bf1 Qd1 29. Rh4 Qh5 30. Nxh5 Bf5 Now Bf5 has no value. 31. Ng7 (attacking Ne8)
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: What if...

What I meant to say is, capture the Queen on h5 with rook, then move the Knight up to h5. Then attack the sole defender of the check mate squre by Ng7. If black shys away from exchange (say Nc7, trying to repeat moves), White can play Ne6, threatening mate-in-1, which black "has to" respond with Ne8, then white can capture the other queen.

i think your idea is excellent, but it can be refuted by a series of accurate moves, as in counterattack by black's queen, with gain of tempi.

you have the right to know the game, chess is for everyone. the theme of game 9 wasn't difficult to understand
We are still proud of Anand for winning many titles for india for many years. He led path to emerge many grand masters from india like Harikrishna, Hampi, sasikiran, harika and many more. Carlson is very young and probably this helped him to win the mage.Mental ability may reduce as one grow older and older. same thing will happen to carlsen too as he grows older.

Yes! By all means. He deserves it now, he deserved it years ago... Is any body listening?....
