Kasparov and Karpov came from Russia where there was a very good chess infrastructure, resources and excellent government support.
Anand had none of these resources in India, compared to the russian and western players , and yet still became the world chess champion five times in a row beating other opponents who had much superior systems and resources to support them.
As Kasparov himself stated, “Imagine if Anand was actually born in the Soviet Union; how much more dangerous he would have become".
His achievements in other fields of chess like the rapid chess , blind fold chess,Advanced chess is also phenomenal. He was also the world rapid chess champion in 2003. He has been rated by critics as the greatest rapid chess player of all time.
This is why he is rated as a great player along the likes of Kasparov ,Fischer and Carlsen.
Considering the lack of resources and institutional support for him, Anand has had a phenomenal record which is a tremondous achievement in itself.
in india we got grand master all the credit goes to the one man mr Anand , off course is Tendulkar legend in cricket when it comes to contribution Sports Anand stay much taller than Tendulkar because he has single handedly lifted the game of chess in INDIA with is hard work and dedication for the game of chess
This is a WORLD chess championship match, which Chennai happens to be hosting. So why is Jayalalitha's photo in the background? ...and that too facing Anand! No wonder the guy is losing.
wife and me pray to all the Gods above that he wins the game and brings credit to the nation, the world and chess lovers everywhere. Your Shakespearean oratorial skills exemplified in your prayers are answered herewith: Magnus the Great will be crowned as the New World Chess Champion and will bring credit to the great nation of Norway. Long live the King. P.S. You didn't qualify the word "he" in your prayers.

I know that you are a tamil-brahmin hater. So are many for their back-stabbing arrogant attitude. But this guy Anand is in his own league. Let us put aside the hatred and support him.

You're remarkable wisdom amazes me. But I don't hate any Tamil brahmins. In your ignorance you don't seem to realize that Anand's days are over. Most Brahmins think that they are the best. So, they do not recognize their limitations and try to keep on going until they fall. Otherwise, he could have retired as undefeated world champion as Kasparov did. Kasparov is a genius who realized that all good things have to come to an end sometime or other.

By the way, I'm a Brahmin from Madras, but not the run-of-the-mill so-called "Brahmins".

carlsen's success is a great boost to norwegian chess, a country not known for chess.

dear ramanathan, save your prayers for the the candidates next year so that he can wrest the title back from carlsen

Only one prayer will be answered. The prayer for next year will not be answered because Anand's performance has declined rapidly over the last five years. It's like the TV commercial in America, "I'm fallen and can't get up".

he is too old now even older than tendulkar so let him retire after the match and give chance to younger players
