Wrestling is one of the few sports that was part of the Olympics from its inception in ancient Greece. The sport is being dropped since USA has lost its dominance over the sport to developing countries and also dope tests have caught many US athletes.
I do not know the reason for the IOC to take such a decision, but i feel that this format is not within the capacity of most of the developed countries who look at this sport as a crude one only meant for the barbarians

mer shankar you do not have any idea of clean wresting (wwf is totally wrestling is purely for entertainment) what about Greco-Roman wrestling ? what about sumo wrestling..what about the great indian wrestling..? it is one of the best sports..if wrestling is banned, what about boxing ? the most dangerous sport.?

Wrestling is much much better sport than beach volley ball and water polo where people are doing worst acts than wrestling.
Then WTF r sports like figure diving and fencing doing in olympics?..just coz USA and some European countries apart from the Russian federation arnt good at the sport?
