Chennai tennis event
by biswanath roy on Jan 02, 2014 06:38 PM

For the last decade and a half, Chennai is holding this ATP 250 event, which in the hierarchy is ranked lowest amongst the men's event. Unfortunately this year this event, could not attract any top 5 ranked players, because with this event, 2 more ATP 250 events, are held simultaneously on the same dates @ Doha & Brisbane which have attracted Nadal, Murray in the former,& Federer, Del Potro,in the latter. Moreover,in this year's Chennai event, the top seed & defending champion Tipsarvic pulled out prior to the start, Youzhny the No 2 seed also pulled out due to illness, with the result that this event is devoid of any big stars. Year by year, the event is losing its attractiveness, and is being devoid of big stars. Hardly a few hundreds watch the matches, and if this trend continues,it will be a very sad for Chennai, which is the cradle for Indian tennis.
