too old

He is too old now. He should retire now and give chance to younger players. Young people will bring new ideas and a fresh mindset.

Gentleman!!why he should retire? He is not playing cricket where when one retires, other waiting players gets in!!Whos is stopping other young players to get in and show their mettle!!He is definitely the one who has inspired chess in our country as nobody else ever did!!

Mr subbu there are some good young players in India. Last year I met one young fellow Mr Negi in New Delhi. he has got a bagful of tricks in chess. don't u feel he should get a chance to show his tricks

Above, you can see two players from same country Laurent Fressinet & Maxime Vachier-Lagraev from France, and another 2 from Russia, so no one is stopping other players of India to play in this kind of tournaments.

I do not think Anand's presence or absence stops Negi from showing his bag of tricks. Negi's bag of tricks, have not earned him a rating that he will get invited to these tournaments. It is not as if a place is reserved for an Indian. Negi is not even second to Anand in india. I doubt he will get invited to "super" tournaments until India organizes a few.
But anand does need to consider his position. He is not quite as dominating as Karpov or Kasparov were as world champions. He exchanges his queen and ends into drawish positions. He relies on preparation rather than creating imbalance on the board. All these suggest lack of creativity, fatigue or motivation.
I hope i am wrong and he can find some other vein.

he is defenitely India's pride but he should now play only selectively . he is a great player , though not of the same level as Kasparov and boby Fischer and to an extent Anatoly karpov in thier days . Probably because of the increased competition from others .
