Every legend's fall is inevitable and so is Anand. He is nowehere near his dominating best and doesnt stand much of a chance in the world chess champioship to be held in Chennai in Nov when he faces unarguably the best player at the moment Magnus Carlsen to defend his title (I would like to be proved wrong). Anand is not officially out of top3 (ranked 6th at the moment), a position he held right from 1994 (when he had defeated the then champion Antoly Karpov, after losing to him in 1992) uptil 2011. Now that he is set to lose his world champion title later this year, I see him dropping out of top10 in the next couple of years and slowly fading. Having said all that, his achviements as a chess player is THE BEST we have seen in India and he stands by far the most successful sportsperson ever produced.

Anand loses games just to throw his world championship challenger off course. His most important match is coming up in Nov, and until then he will purposely lose few games just to let his challenger think that Anand is off form

You may be right. That approach of misleading opponents is typical of Brahmins, and Anand is one of them. I will not be surprised, since all these games are studied intensely by the world championship aspirants.
Time will tell!!

I agree with u. Anand's "decline" has actually started in 2007. It was then noticeable that he was content not to lose games and finish 2/3. Now he is losing games and finishing 5/6 and seems ok with that. While he remains a top player, the hunger seems to be missing.
Somehow i belive, that if he loses the world championship (and it is a big "if"), it may be better for him. Would release him from the unnecessary baggage. He seems to be playing, like he is holding on to something rather than letting his creativity flow. It happens. Whether it is a fall, decline or simply lack of interest.
