Schumacher may be the greatest, but not most popular!

Schumi had been World Champion for 7 times OUT of 17 years - i.e 42% - Success Ratio.
Federer has been World No 1 for Six years out of THIRTEEN professional years.
Success Ratio is 47%, Federer is Slightly Ahead.
Both are very dominant.
However, NONE OF THEM Proved Majority by achieving 51% Success Rate to be truly called " RULER " !!!

At least in India, the first name comes to people mind is Micheal Schumaker.

Don't know why author is blamin him?

above Schumacher in this century in any measure.

Among current crop, Alonso is equal in all measure to Schumacher and Vettel and Hamilton are close. Kimi is a big what might have been..

all these might have been great drivers but in terms of sheer statistics schumi is the best
