JERUSALEM: Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, an amateur chess player and an enthusiast of the game, closely followed the 12th game of World Championships between his countryman Boris Gelfand and India's defending champion Viswanathan Anand in Moscow.
The game was broadcast on a giant screen in a room adjacent to the Prime Minister's office where Netanyahu watched it between meetings and spoke with Natan Sharansky, a former minister who was a promising chess player as a child, about the moves. and indian pm was not even aware of the world championship
other than pt usha, leander paes, gopi chand, saina nehwal, prakash padukone, rahul dravid etc. Just forget about their achievments but only look at the commitment and attitude they have shown in their respective fields. There may be names missing from this list, but these names cannot be forgotten at the same time. Bring such players in the management of the sport when they retire. Only that way we can save the sports in our country

r u sure u r a real person? we have won many medals in Asian games in chess... chess is mind sports, it is a game of skill that everyone cant have... chess is good to improve ur brain power...
As usual you are belittling any good effort by Tamilnadu sports person. The game is world Championship not IPL tamasha. Anand has to play to win & not to lose. Draw is better option than losing. Can you tell the bafoons who is playing cricket for India putting the same effort to avoid a lose while being paid for playing for the nation. A DEFINITE NO. So write with sense not insane/cynic.

i did not see any discrimination in this article but cannot reject you and say there is no discrimination every where. Anand is a legend who brings proud to the country, to tamilians.

It is not just tamilians. Chess is a fascinating subject in the west and also in Russia and other places and therefore Anand's name will be more universally known, though among the elite, much more than Tendulkar and the like. More important, Anand is known as a gentle and amiable person. Next best well known names will be from tennis.
