Good to see India win against a tricky team.... Apruva, the statement is incorrect. When comparison is done, you cannot compare apples to oranges. In the shortest format of cricket, which equates to the regular format of hockey, there are 105 official cricket playing countries and more are joining in. Check the stats @ http://icc-cricket.yahoo.net/the-icc/icc_members/overview.php.
So, while we should rejoice the Indian wins in other sport (which is happening, still slower than what we expect), we cannot outrightly rule the fact we are better in cricket and it moves the country more than any other sport. Best is to enjoy the wins which we are getting in other sports and expect better management to take them forward.

in football, we are at ard 160th position, still we have a craze for football, this is called popularity.. just by officially registering as cricket playing nation doesnt matter... cricket is mostly played in india, pakistan, sri-lanka, bangladesh... and not more than a dozen country even know whats cricket is... thats why cricket is not in olympics... and, in cricket india is a big failure after wasting so much money and time we won world cup after 3 decades... and above all cricket is not power sports like football, hockey, tennis... cricket is not an athletic sports, its a sluggish sports fit for indian lazy people.
