Masters series
by Michael on Mar 18, 2012 08:58 AM  | Hide replies

Federer has won against Nadal 6-3,6-4. So Nadal is after all not so invinsible. Now the finals should be interesting. Looks like Federer is back to his winning ways and if he plays like this then he will surely get to the #1 ranking soon.

Federer is now the Anna Kornikova of mens tennis,he brings in the glamour and the crowds, however unlike Kournikova he also has loads of substance its not all style. However, winning another GS is just not possible. He will give the better players a run for their money in 2 setter circus events and maybe even upset them once in a blue moon, like yesterday. But GS??Impossible. He doesnt have it in him to beat both Rafa and Novak in a 3 setter GS setting, not anymore.

I would not call 1000 pt events a circus? If nadal wins it is a very important and tournament , the minute he loses you dismiss the importance of the tournament.

So what? Federer has won 9 times against Nadal previously. He will always win some, but winning a match does not mean that he is back to his winning ways. Let him beat Nadal in 3 successive matches to be able to say this with some conviction.
This has never happened, and therefore it can be predicted with a high confidence level that this is never going to happen?
If you have read some statistics, you can mathematically calculate the chances of Federer winning 3 consecutive matches against Nadal using the sample size of 28 matches they have contested so far.

@aishwarya, yeah.. Fed cant beat Nadal 3 consecutive matches. One thing - Fed cant lose to anyone cosecutive 7 times.. losing 7 cosecutive matches to 1 person(& may be fe more) really hurts.. seriously it will create doubts..

Well well well Aishwarya. You cannot digest the fact that both Nadal and Djoko lost. First you say chances of Fed winning are slim etc .... astrologer bla bla bla and he won't make the final, and when he does win against Nadal the goal posts have changed and it is now 'let him win 3 in a row'

Federer has won four straight times now againt Del Potro
by HUSSAIN MITHANI on Mar 17, 2012 11:58 PM  | Hide replies

Del Potro is not the same player he was when he demolished Nadal in straight sets at 2009 US open and took federer to five sets in the final. I think he is slowly coming back. He is already cracked the top ten. Federer is playing amazing tennis even when he is not 100% in this tournament with the flu. Federer will play Nadal for the first time in this tournaments after so many years. Its unfortunate that nadal could not face federer is his peak days. The 25 year old Nadal is the favorite to win against the 30 yr old federer. If Nadal loses, it will be huge upset and the loss will be more painful for nadal fans.

Federer-Nadal Rivalry: Where is it?
by aishwarya patil on Mar 17, 2012 06:07 PM  | Hide replies

People call Federer-Nadal match-ups a rivalry. How can it be called a rivalry when one person is winning twice as much as the other person? If there was a rivalry, it has been won hands down by Nadal, and the rivalry no longer exists.
Can anyone quote another example from any other sport where a player who has a proven superior record over another player is said to be entangled in a rivalry with the beaten player?

As I said,Federer's role is now limited to being an entertainment quotient, like Anna Kournikova used to be.He brings a lot to the game and the ATP needs him to draw in the crowds. As far as competitive tennis is concerned,Nadal and Djoko are a level higher than the rest of the pack.Ask Shiva MS if he has anything to say about this (other than lame and pathetic insults and foul language).

you are right, there is no longer any rivalry between federer and nadal. then there is sure a rivalry between djokovic and nadal, which the former is sure going to win in the longer run. federer is past his prime and so whatever titles he wins here on is a bonus for him.

I think Djoko-Nadal rivalry will get better in the days to come.Rafa had a block against him but is working hard on it,as the Aus Open showed. In fact,I think Rafa is the most improved player in the last 3-4 years. He's looking unbeatable by anybody other than Novak, his hard court play has improved by leaps and bounds, and he's been in successive US Open finals, a feat many tards like Shiva MS thought impossible.2010-3 GS finals, won all 3,2011-3 finals, won 1,2012-lost the first final by a whisker. He's only gonna get better.

You have already been proven wrong. I don't know why you like to ridicule yourself by asking the same thing over and over like an energizer bunny. everyone has explained to you the facts but you still live in a dream world. enjoy living in your dream world. federer is still the greatest and you are still in denial.

Ha ha nice one Mr Hussain. I like the energizer bunny comparison. Aishwarya is probably hiding behind a rock somewhere as Djokovic has lost in a SF again and she was so sure he would be in the final. I mentioned in my ealier blog not to underestimate Isner. Just because Djoko had a great year in 2011 does not give him the divine right to be in a final. Aishwayra likes to count her chickens before they hatch. She has yet to understand the true meaning of the term rivalry. As to her question where is it? Well she needs to stop living a blinkered existence and open her eyes now and again and obeserve.

Just shouting at the top of your voice and getting a couple more to shout with you doesn't make you right and others wrong. When and how have I been proven wrong? I am firmly of the view that Nadal is a better player than Nadal, and this is established by a H2H record, the sample size of which is big enough to draw the conclusion: mathematically. Second point is that if a better player is playing in the same era, how can Federer be called best of the era? You can disagree on both points, and so can some others, but that doesn't prove me wrong.
Your talk reminds me of your ilk who say that they agree that Israel exists, but they will never agree that Israel has a right to exist.
You agree that Nadal has a hold over Federer, but you will never agree that Nadal has got this hold rightfully!
Greatest of All Time is a subject for discussion, and can never be concluded. Federer is surely one of the best players ever, but so is Nadal. Federer by no means can be called the best of them all, even if he wins the post in an sms poll.
Tennis has seen many greats. You might not have heard most of the names.
Who knows what Bobby Riggs might have achieved if WW II had not interrupted his career? Haven't heard of him? Go to google.

This Hussein Mithani fellow seems like one of those polotical hangers-on,who think that screaming and abusing or mob mentality can make people accept your point of view.It doesnt work, rather it only shows you in poor light.

It's certainly a bit of a big ask, expecting these lackeys here to have heard of Bobby Riggs. You should ask them about SRK,Salman, etc.

You probably googled info on Boby Riggs and the 1973 Battle of the Sexes and then claim to be an authority going on to assume non of us have ever heard of him. I reckon you knows far more about SRK and Salman than you are letting on, but very little about tennis. It is understandable if your interest in the sport is rather emphemeral.

FedUp should continue in the game.He draws the crowds and inspires youngsters.True that everyone fancies their chances against him these days, even Sania Mirza, but then he's just over the hill. And he's learnt to accept defeat gacefully and not crib moan and cry.So we want him to continue in the game, even as an also-ran.
