More bureaucrats went and spent money than sports persons .When some stupid is elected /nominated with the administration of sport ,any sport his one and only aim is how much he can get from it ? Now when you are incompetent - your first thing you do is get cronies around you , who will sing with you .

SO MUCH FOR NATIONALISM
by Saurabh NEGI on Jun 18, 2012 05:20 PM  | Hide replies

players like Bhupathy have always put themselves ahead of the country. He is unavailable for the Davis Cup but will readily play in professional tournaments. How can a player be greater than the COUNTY. INDIA has given him an oppotunity to represent at the highest level and he has declines . In my view such playres should be BANNED FOR LIFE from playing any where in INDIA colours (does he ever ?)GO AWAY & SPARE US.

Why should they be banned from life from playing in the country? Then somebody will say ban you from moving out of your home town.

What is this, a democracy or banana republic?

Bhupati doesn't want to play with Paes is his decision. Nobody can force him or ban him. Maybe he wont be selected for Davis cup, but as a professional he can play anywhere and nobody can stop him.

Finally, patriotism is the last resort of a scounderel. For the sake of the country you should do this or that. What rubbish.

For the sake of the country and to boost the army's morale, will you let a army brigade satisfy their urges with your wife? If not, does it mean you are putting your self ahead of your country?

Bhupathi has his point. The pair participated in olympics for 4 times and every time returned empty handed.May be a change in pairing will improve the results.

Bhupathi is also the head of Mittal Foundation which is sponsoring and preparing many atheletes to participate in the mega event. In such a scenario, some cricketers would have faked injury and did not participate.Even BCCI did not send teams to Asian games.Atleast Bhupathi is telling clearly that he is not interested to participate with Paes. Its ok.

AITA can easily send two teams.Paes_Bhambri and Hesh_Bopanna..

Apart from posting in twitter_Mr.Maken should give strong instruction to send two teams..

May be the army in your country satisfies itself like this but not in INDIA. The only idea is the best ranked players should represent the country. The country cannot be held to the whims & fancies of a particular player.

No need to drop any one, both can play.

Any how Paes partner is foreign.Hesh_Bop are already top ranked Indian doubles partners.

Yes totally agree with u. Just remember two top rank players won't always make a good pair in double, what matter is the
chemistry between them.
Saurabh :For ur kind informaion Pace also opted out of Asian games B,cause some professional tournaments

Can GAMBHIR say he doesn't want to pair up with Tendulkar at TOP? He has his "chemistry" with SEHWAG n will play with him only?
IT's AITA who is entertaining such requests.

Dude, Winning a Olympic medal is much greater than anything . Mr Mahesh Bhupathi is yet to win a Olympic medal or help anyone to win a Olympic medal. Whereas Mr Paes Family is filled with Olympic Bloods (Vece Paes-Hockey, Leander Paes-Tennis, Mother-Basketball) ! Never Question Patriotism of such family !

2 major problems for nation.
by Ganesh on Jun 18, 2012 05:12 PM

Oh No ! Another major problem for the nation. Who will be the President, who will pair with tennis player ?

Such major problems for India while common man continues to work for feeding his children in times of rising prices and rising pollution and rising water problems.

These 2 problems are much bigger and need immediate attention.

Bhupathi should have the right to refuse to play with Paes
by Vijay Sahani on Jun 18, 2012 04:29 PM  | Hide replies

This is not indian bureaucracy where a babu can enforce his decision based on "internal discipline".

In sports, the mental makeup of a player is very important. If a player is not comfortable with his team mate he should have the right to chose another partner. AITA should not make this an ego issue. If Bhupathi is forced to play with Paes i'm sure he will not be able to give 100% to the game. Hence, AITA should back off and allow "reasonable freedom" to the players to make their own choices.

But Merit doesnt allows Mr Bhupathi to choose, Ranking wise Mr Paes scores well above Bhupathi and Bopanna and hence he has right to chose. Choice of freedom doesnt comes before choice of Merit. Also Mr Paes is a Olympic medal winner not anyone else.

Well, the fact that both Bhupati and Bopanna have refused to play with Leander shows that Paes is probably an arrogant prikk.

Also, individual rankings make no sense in a doubles match. Next AITA will say Paes and Sania should team up for olympics, when clearly Bhupati-Sania have been a successful pair.

The dweebs at AITA obviously know nothing of sports and are using their appointment thru political favours to throw their weight around.

I support Bhupati. AITA can go to hayll.

Well. This Blunder could have solved had it been - Sending of Two teams confirmed ! 1st of all we dont know whether sania will get wild card or not. if she gets then paes or mahesh can partner her , and rest two can go for men 's doubles - problem solved ! or else we can send two mens doubles- Paes and Yuki or somdev and Mahesh and Bopanna [ but choice of merit goes with mr Paes ]

The idea is not to give everyone a chance. The idea is to send a team which has the best probability of winning. Clearly Bhupati-Bopanna is the pair in mens and Bhupati-Mirza in mixed doubles. You can't force people to play in a doubles match when they cant stand each other. Doubles tennis requires the two players to have complete faith in each other and excellent communication. Clearly this is not possible between Bhupati-Paes and Paes-Bopanna.

I know Paes probably ranks better as an individual, but nobody wants to play with him. So what to do?

Teaming Paes-Bhupati or Paes-Bopanna will lead to certain defeat.
