Practice Matches!!!
by J D on Jun 15, 2012 05:29 PM

Why can't they have practice matches for the selected Indian team against the best of the rest. The best of the rest could include the players that did not get selected in final selection and also some old stalwarts like Prabhjot and Rajdeep and some others. I think this way there will be no daubt left in folks mind that the best players have been selected and some last minute changes could be made in the team.

for all those ridiculing 2 lakhs.. isn't it better than nothing..
n the big money in bcci is all their income from sponsors n media.. which is absent in hockey..
dont blame HI ... as a nation we're also obsessed with cricket ..
its not like HI is earning like bcci n paying only 2 lacs
for a sportsperson in dire straits even 2 lacs is a lifesaver

The benefit should be substantial and we need to have a system

Rs 2 lakh is no good. The amount has to be such that our yesteryear stars can live an honest and decent life. This can be (a) a very high one time benefit or (b) a moderate level one time beneift with a monthly pension/ annuity given to them through a trust created specially for retired sportspersons. The annuity amount will be same irrespective of medal winners. Gradation should be based on participation in Olympic, Asiad, Commonwealth and National levels. I am exclsuing state levels, as the best of breed sortpersons will be identified at a very young age by the time they reach state level competitions, and then they can pursue alternate careers. Participation in National, Asiad, Commonwealth or Olympics require long time effort and hence they should be allowed pension/ annuity. Money should not be an issue, peanuts compared to wastage through subisidies and leakages in teh system. This can be fuunded through central/ state level tax revenue, entertainment tax levied on events and sponsors money. Let's show some respect to our yesteryear sportspersons and give a sense of comfort and stability to our future sportspersons.

Fully agee with you.
They have to be paid well. My guess is each of them should be paid no less than 20 to 25 lakhs.

Giving this paltry amount is like insulting yesteryear stars ..
Give them a decent home to live in and pension amount to lead the rest of the life with ease.

Peanuts.. "24 where 34 of the living Olympic gold medallists will be presented with cash reward of Rs two lakh each"; Third class, third rate cricketers also get paid much more than this..
