that's is why its not really important for federer to win an olympic gold. You can tell from his comments that it is not a BIG DEAL if he doesn't win it. If he wins it, its a bonus. Its not necessary for him to win to be considered the GOAT because even without the singles Olympic Gold, he is the GOAT. BEST OF LUCK GOAT FEDERER FOR WIMBLEDON.

He surely needs loads of luck. And yes,his comments certainly reflect that he has understood his position.Anyway, similary Nadal doesnt need to win the overpriced, overhyped jambooree that's called the WTF.Nadal's class and legend is unquestioned,WTF or not.
Let's demolish Mithani's arguments once again. He kindly listed Nadal's non clay titles list to claim that Nadal is not an all court player and his exploits are restricted to clay.So I guess using his own logic,we are justified in posting Roger Federer's clay court record to prove that he is NOT an all court player and neither is Pete Sampras. So neither Federer nor Sampras can claim to be the GOAT (we are using Mithani's 'logic' here.)
Here's Federer's clay court titles 2012-1(laughable 'blue clay') 2011-0 2010-0 2009-2(We all know how that happened) 2008-1 (Estoril,again we know) 2007-1 2006-0 2005-1 2004-1 2003-1 2002-1 2001-0 2000-0 1999-0
So in a decade or more of his career,Roger has achieved next to nothing on clay, using his own fans 'logic'. Maybe you need to change your 'logic',Mithani? And please explain your claim of 'surface change' at Wimbledon being responsible for Nadal's 2 titles there.

The height of the grass was decreased from 1/4 to 1/8 of inch and therefore the speed/ pace of grass courts has changed to favor players like Nadal. This may explain why players dont serve and volley on Wimbledon as much as they used to. If you value the fact that Federer reached more French open than any other player except Nadal/ Bjorg, you wont even question Federer's status on clay!

Hahaha. Was the grass also smeared with cowdung to increase the bounce and topspin?Anyway,my questions are meant for the braindead people who question Nadal's status on non clay surfaces.I'm just showing that the stats they try to throw around are equally applicable to the so called GOAT.

And I clearly mentioned,I was using the 'logic'(or lack of it) of Mithani, this forum's most prized dunderhead.

great response. its nice to know there are some knowledgable tennis fans. federer himself was serve and volley player before he changed his game because of the surface change. There is no question about it. Federer is an all-court player.

Federer was NEVER a serve and volleyer. In fact he was one of the earliest in the line of baseliners who made serve and volley a dying art.Nadal and Djoko only carried the flag forward.Anyway,There are the same questions about Federer's clay credentials as there are about Nadal's non clay credentials.
There is no doubt about the talent & skilset of Roger Federer. He is one of themost gifted tennis player to have graced the field. But to annoint anyone the greatest, one has to judge the quality of opposition one endured during that period. If nadal had not played tennis from 2005.Federer probably could have gone on to win more than 20 Grand slams. The same arguement holds true for Nadal ,had Federer not been around. But there head to head tells you a very different story.A story which should be aptly titled Federer got rogered....

There are some milestones which can be considered in debate of GOAT. I am only talking about them.

Sadly, you DONT decide what milestones to be considered and what are not.

true. someone has to pass his records. he has too many so no current tennis player will surpass all of his records. That is why he is the Greatest Player of all time.

He ddint even get bronze last time, and it was on his favored surface. This time an earlier exit is in order.
