Indians and sports
by SK on Jul 30, 2012 04:52 PM  | Hide replies

Traditionally Indians are not good at sports or work that demand a lot physically. We are only good at sports with limited physical action. We do well in some of them with sheer skill (like we did in Hockey before other teams caught up and left us behind)

Indians are lazy...that is evident in the fact that modern India does not have major architectural or heavy engineering marvels to show off. Ancient India was a different matter when kings would k!ck serious a$$ to get things done.

In sports we are good in patches...that too mainly in batting..again limited physical work compared to say fast bowling. Our cricket icons are mostly batters, as opposed to other countries like Aus, Pak, SA, WI etc where fast bowlers are revered. We only had one Kapil Dev but he is respected as a good leader, alrounder and WC winning capt, more than for his fast bowling.

In industry we are good at sitting and writing code (for foreigner's ideas of course!), or management (where u have to make others work, without doing any work)

And as you know I am sitting and commenting nicely, another typical Indian!

A lot is being said about the harshness of Chinese system - but that is required for this level of achievement. Needs the same level of hard work and dedication to achieve in any sport.

The same a$$ kicking that kings used to do to bring out the best in men...still works in communist china, but not in democratic india.

then media will make him a superhero. and he will flop in all subsequent events. why can't india emulate other countries by just taking any medal win in its stride instead of being super excited abt it and spoiling the sportsman with unnecessary goodies.
