India's long term prospects at the Olympics if its current team comes back from London empty handed!

That way, the widespread cynicism in the country as regards the capability of the Indian Olympic Association to groom the nation's athletes free of corruption and inefficiency might reach the tipping point!

And only a strong enough and sustained enough public outcry and outrage at the corruption, politicisation and inefficiency in the way the union and state govts. run the sports bodies can result in some true remedial measures!

Fate of Indian Team gone to Olympic
by Charvak Chanyakk on Jul 29, 2012 11:39 AM

It seems that Indian Team has gone to Olympic without Blessings from wonder kid of India. How are they expected to win without blessings from Crown Prince ? Further the memebrs do not have proper percentage of players from deprived sections of Indian society. How that was tollerated by politicians, can not be understood. Why are Lallus, Diggie Doggie and Mulayams of India are silent on this issue ?

Mixed doubles is played two and by Sania alone. So the gold will be won (if at all) by Paes-Sania.

we r actually nowhere near professional sports ..!!

the difference between india and other countries is , we dun take sports as a profession , we just take it as a sport. and tht is why losing or winning doesnt matter to us that much . as if we r playing in a gali of some indian city .. we can never win consistently in olympics unless we have mindset change among indian public and administration.

for e.g. when i was in school. the school sports administration used to handpick the team for athletics event for the district junior level and that too just 2 days before the actual event and ask us to practise. this is how it works here . no planning . just random selections and absurd preparations.

chinese win becoz they r focused and disciplined. Indians dun have these qualities. and most importantly their media is highly sensored. which is the prime reason for their amazing performances widout getting tempted by lucrative offers..endorsements..etc..

I recently saw a program where the viewers with some esteemed coaches predicted 8-10 gold medals for India. Going by current trends it will not be surprising if they return empty handed as indicated by you.

No way, in boxing alone we can expect 1 gold for sure ( first time inclusion of women boxing), Merry contesting for India, who has won 4 world titles, still undefeated. Then Susil Kumar, Vijendar singh will give us at least bronze.. then our ace shooters r yet to participate.. weightlifting, tennis mixed doubles, badminton ladies single.. and may be surprises in other events too. this time our totatl tally will be much higher.. just wait and watch..
