But when does Somdev play ? Greater part of time mostly he appears injured !Of course we could not see his game and only hope he was injury free while playing in the olympics ? In the background of all those controversies generated by AITA, the sports body certainly needs to set its house in order.
I think indian sportpersons need to be extra professional.hThey have to be perfect and exact in their approach to win medals in olympics.World level standard is very high and the quality is required.India has only population and quantity but no quality
This time, the sports authorities have provided money and infratstructure to all athletes including international training and exposure and still look at the way the archery team lost.
It proves beyond doubt that Indian people including small town people are looking for small monetary gains and can never bring big glory for the country in sports.

Have you ever sent somebody from your family to adopt a sporting career ? If it's so easy and is being supported adequately by the govt, then why don't you make few champions from your near and dear ones ? It's not so easy dear ? First try yourself and then blame them. We don't have courage ourselves to take risks and are barking on the players who have atleast courage from their childhood to adopt sports as their career and risk their and their families lives.
We are playing safe careers and commenting on them ! Silly.

I said India is not a sporting country. Which includes you and me. Why you f00ls get so touchy when truth is told?

Well said varun ...How many parents in our country take pride when their 10 year old excels in sports than in studies at school ? Everyone keeps cribing "My child doesn't study, he plays and wastes times" ...with this kind of a culture, how do you expect India to excel at olympics ?
Just see the standards, these developed countries have set ..Be happy that we are atleast getting an odd medal to figure in the medals' tally atleast ..something they failed in the 1980s.

stupid theory...satisfied with odd medal or two. Point is that these sportspersons are getting the best of training but they are busier giving interviews to the media rather than focussing on their events and giving their best. Look at the way people from Korea, japan etc are so focussed. Whereas athletes like jawala and others are just talking so much on TV.

listen these days indian sports persons getting reasonably adequate facilities from government,,,may not be of australian standard but still a lot better than earlier...for example...sardara singh and mamta kharab from hockey team been given the appointment of DSP in haryana police on the basis of their performance...same goes for vijender though he won bronze but then vijender got crores of rupees for that..but like sardara singh hasnt done anything great..just been a part of indian hokcey team..but he got the appointment which u and me will get after passing toughest state civil services exam...i can quote such number of examples...where athletes who have just represented india or even their state have got lucrative jobs...u are ill-informed..parents send kids for sports these days bcoz its a guarantee of job through short cut..guarantee of admission in sports quota in best colleges in Delhi and Mumbai...so i guess u need to re-check ur comment...even i got 10 marks in my interview for armed forces for my representation in Lawn Tennis for my university and i stood runners up in that...and i got an advantage in the interview...so things are changing and have changed

yep, look at the way CWG games toppers like Britian, South Africa, Australia are doing at the games. They are lagging behind the real powers of the world like China, USA, Italy, France etc.
i was watching archary with great hope but i was ashamed to see our players laughing after erratic shots. same was in case of jwala gutta and v.degu. jwala was much concerned about her make up/get up rather game.

most are there in london to later write in their resume: Participated in the London Olympic Games, 2012 . they are just happy to be part of this extravaganza
Re: poor show

actually they are fighting it out, they are aware of the opposition is overwhelming..but what can do..in India the competition (and facilities) is not good enough for olympics..
Re: poor show

dear ashok...atleast in the case of archery it was bad luck bcoz they scored 210 and korea who eventually won gold also scored 210 in finals..even in semi-final it was less than 210 for korea..its indian bad luck that their opponent scored 211 only in tht match and never in other matches
As a taxpayer I strongly object to this kind of waste of money
This is nothing but a luxurious holiday for these parasites..even before leaving it was amply clear that 90 % of them did not have the remotest chance of getting any sort of medal
Re: expected

u seem to know nothing else but cricket....there is no region-wise quota in olympics...otherwise why india doesnt have any athlete in cycling,,equesterian, diving and many sports how ever bad indian player is..in that case even if indian player is third class,,,he or she will get entry through region-wise quota
Re: Re: expected

yesterday gymnast jordyn weiber achieved 4th place in qualifying YET she did not qualify for finals because of 2 participant for country quota rule. other relatively low scorers got thru because they were not from USA. ..

Also, our both table tennis players (who are knocked out now) qualified on basis of south asian quota.

before you start to attack others with your poor knowledge, make sure you don't make a fool of yourself like you've done here. there is indeed region wise quota in some events of thegames f.ex in gymnastics (yest. they didn't take top finishers, rather they took 2 participants from each country), there's a quota in table tennis as well to prevent chinese monopoly in the event. and here in tennis if not a quota/wildcard how else do you think a 418th ranked player got a single's cut? india doesn't have athletes in other sports, becuz they finish poorer than other countries, simple as that.
