I agree as one of the bloggers that sometimes we underestimate the efforts that are gone into even qualifying or even reaching that stage. But here is an example that should open our eyes where do we really stand. You all must have seen the heroic stories about the MICHEAL PHELPS,MARK SPITZ,SERGEI BUBKEA,ELENA ISINBAYEVA,CARL LEWIS and the list is endless. The common think between them is that they have litterally devoted, surrendered to not just their game to their dream and the when I see them performing I can feel the zeal to be best in thier eyes, body language and of course performance. The above example is a result of the same that the kind of madness that you require at this level to perform. If we are complaining about the facilities only then what kind of facilities do african sprinters have, they hardly get anyhelp from their war affected countries but still they shine in the atheletics event.
Winning a medal in the OLYMPICS is not about having only best of facilites, its like a passion that a soldier has to die for the country who has no fear whatsoever come what may the situation is. I hope bloggers wont hate me for being a little nagative.

Indians participate in Olympics for Govt Jobs (without having to actually do any job) not the medals.

it does affect..the more you're placed towards the bottom, the more higher ranked opponents you'll have to play. 1st plays 64th, 2nd plays 63rd..like that..

It doesnt affect... in beijing mangaldeep champia was ranked no 1 after ranking rounds... and he lost...

upsets can happen, or a top archer can have a bad day , but for a majority of the archers of course it will affect. that's the purpose of having elimination pairings, so the relatively lowly archers get weeded out and only the top remain thru the medal rounds...

and btw, champia was ranked 2, so he faced 63rd seed and he did defeat that seed. in the second round he got eliminated facing 31st seed, that 31st seed had faced 34th seed in first round and had defeated him and later defeated champia

No, since there are 12 teams, 4 teams get bye and the other 8 teams face off to find the balance 4 for the QFs. India face off agnst Japan tomorrow.

yes i know now the top 4 teams get a bye and a direct entry into quarters. but my base logic is correct about elimination pairing, as in, last plays first, so ind plays the top team that doesn't get a bye. either way it's sad news.
