Other major powers put a lot of emphasis on sports, catch talent at a very young stage, encourage them and provide them with world-class facilities and food.

Here kids taking up sports are treated as less worthy than those who mug up lessons and score marks in academics. Kids take up sports only to get into govt jobs. So as long as they achieve that goal, they are happy.

The only sportsmen taken seriously in our land are the cricketers, where the players behave more like celebrities than sports persons. Look at their pathetic fielding standards and athleticism.

Our country cannot become anything in Olympics for another 300 years. Just some hype one month before the games and unrealistic medal hopes.

There lies our problem

Athletes should be told they would be given better facilities in terms of training, coaching, more money on food nutrition, tools etc., Instead they are being told they would be given a govt job by minister. This is our sporting culture. People who want to excel in sports do so to get a govt job??? Wrong approach. Also, whats with Sports authority. This is the same body that asked cyclists and other athletes to sign a bond that if they damage things given to them while training they will have to repay!!!! How will anyone train at all? PAthetic it is and pathetic it will remain. Mr.Maken you are following the footsteps of sports ministers from previous regime who spoke because they have to. Sorry sir - utter nonsense. Do something in your capacity to make them profesisonal and motivate them to win olympic medals in future also. Dont make them government employees standing below trees and drink tea from vendor
