Are you saying, India have chances of a podium finish this time, counting all those victories in ? Be happy if they finish in top 6. A semifinal place would be a miracle. This is just being practical, not undermining or discouraging anyone. I am sure, those who follow Indian and World Hockey would agree with me.

These outdoor activities can be divided into team and nonteam.Non team are a metric to individual resources and capabilities which are partly inherited and partly developed by training.Success in individual events is the merit of the individual first and then the nation.Individual events are a pointer to nations health and human resource capabilities.Infrastructure support needs in individual events are minimal .In team events infrastructure needs are maximum in terms of resources development, training, organisation and selection .Olympics are a test not of a few people who participate or who attend. It is a test of the nations capaility just like that in war which is a unplanned eventuality.Olympics are a planned event and any dismal outcome indicates that our society has to be restructured. If we do badly at London, time is that we seriously dismantle the countries fedral structure and and seek state autonomy.I am sure Gujarat will take the lead with Mody at helm. Why Gujarat ,because it has minimal participation in Physical Sports although Vallabhbhai Patel was a strong contender of Physical Culture in Pre and immediate post independance years .Some time I am forced to think that we are an inferior race.Hence we cover up with quantity as we cant match quality with Blacks or Whites or Mongols

Be realistic

I m really cheesed off with the media fraternity as they r nonpareil in hyping things to such dizzy heights that climbing down indeed becomes a daunting task.

I hvn't scintilla of doubt that of late indian hockey has been performing exceedingly well even when pitted against some of the world's leading teams. But, humbling holland, germany, aus, spain,britain.... who, by any stretch of imagination, ain't in the same street as india, and in process, finish up being in the podium still a far cry. Nonetheless, godspeed to indian HC while leaving for london. Only pray is that play fearlessly and true to yr potential, HAVE FAITH IN U, do't get bogged down by the situation at any juncture, and if u could do so, take my word-moving mountain then would appear cinch to u.

trust, if my keeping tight-lipped would alter the reality even by a bit. truth is always bitter and hard to digest until u hv a strong stomach. what's the point in being foolishly euphoric?

Having played Hockey - and having been eliminated from national level consideration due to nepotism - i too *AM indeed cynical but realistically also = a 5-8 finish will be most likely.

This is not to suggest that i do not WANT/ DESIRE / WISH a Gold medal for Indian Hockey team.
If being theatrical can help , i am prepared to give an arm and a leg in addition to a pint of my blood in exchange for a podium finish.

The bitter truth is the 4th place finish in the preparatory tournament.

Don't overrate a weak team

In last 1 month India lost all matches played with Great Britian, Spain, South Africa etc. Sorry, but It would be a miracle if we even a single match in olympic. We won't improve. Same olympic story is running from last 2 decade.

If wishes were horses, even beggars would ride: OLD PROVERB.
Not to say that i too do not have my fingers crossed.
But for Sandeep to score, the team would need to earn a PC first.
And, by PC, i don't mean a Priyanka, P. Chidambram or even a
computer L-0-L
