This time Indian contingent look strong than ever before. India may win medal in shooting, boxing & wrestling. But in other event India may perform better but can't win medals.People talking about Saina Nehwal as medal prospect but they forget that Chinese opponent are on peak at world stage that's why they don't send their top players for world competitions before olympics. In hockey India can not qualify even for semifinal because India is in very tough group. Secondly, Indian style of hockey cannot compete against europen teams as it is also evident from their practice matches against Spain, Newzealand, England before olympics. Among shooters only Sodhi can win the medal. Let's forget about other events like athletics, table tennis, archery. Don't keep very high hopes and be reasonable because as nation India still don't have a sport system which can produce 7 0r 8 medal winners in olympics.

Well you are right about the sports system part to some extent. But as is evident from above article, things are changing, albeit slowly. While many are aware of reality, and the fact that a lot can go wrong, nothing wrong in hoping for the best and wishing them. The part of you that is rational is making the above statement. But the part of me that likes esoteric sciences believes that 1.2 billion best wishes will count for something!!!
I have a very positive feeling this time and expect India to bag lot of medals and stand among the top 20 in the final medal tally. The players who are expected to bring medals include:

that would be fantastic Om. 7-3-6. In fact if India win even half of those medals most of us would be very happy. We will dicuss again about medal predictions in the coming days.

Bindra has a big roadblock of statistics. No one got back to back golds in his sports. :( But he has the potential though.
Saina will get a medal, not sure of gold.
Mary is the best boxer from her category but she is playing in upper zone where boxers are bigger in height, that may hamper her chances of gold.
Deepika, Ranjan and Gagan have good chances in your list, provided that they have a good day and don't choke.
Expecting too high from Vikas, I would rather guess for Thapa for silver.
On bronze you look way too optimistic though. :)
Gowda has no chance, even Krishna will face problems (she may get it only if others faulted in finals.) Yogeshwar is a good wrestler but not sure if he can get us medal.
Paes and Mirza may reach QF. Narsing Yadav may touch QF. Vijender has better chances of bronze.
I don't see much out of Amit (too young), sangwan, Vijay or Sanjiv. Titu or Heena won't even reach final medal rounds. Hocky team won't go anywhere, probably end up 6th or 7th.
Who is P Prakash? you mean P. Kashyap? He won't reach medal game either, I guess.
You have your points, still please donot forget,London is the best possible venue for Indians to perform outside India. There will be huge support and that will boost the moral of our atheletes. So,there is a surprising element stored this time..
Mittal Champions Trust,Olympic Gold Quest and Ajay Maken are leaving no stone unturned so that Indians can display superlative performance this time.It is a question of prestige for Lord L N Mittal and Lord Swaraj Paul. Our erstwhile descendants of colonial kings and queens will also be watching and cheering for us...
All the best to Indian Boxers. Think in this case, it is a combination of lots of hard work and some support from the system as well.
When you have a coach who is willing to skip his own daughter's wedding to attend to his work, not only does it speak of his commitment but it also lifts others commitments.

He is not even Indian. That shows he is coaching not just for money. The presence of a good support staff could be the reason why today India has not just one or two good boxers but quite a few potential olympic medal winners

Correct. If you recall, a similar thing happened in cricket about 10-15 yrs ago. Once there was stability in the support staff, success followed.
