Relax. Chettri will only play in the B team. No way he will get chance in the first team. Anyway it will be good experience for him.

We should sent taller footballers to Europe
by JELJO JOSE on Jul 05, 2012 12:50 PM  | Hide replies

Taller footballers should play for India. Height is definitely a big parameter when playing physically tough games like football. You stand a chance only if you are tall and of course strong enough to overpower defenders in Europe. Anyways good luck to Chettri. Lets hope more talented and taller footballers will get chances to play in the top leagues and bring back their experience to better Indian Football which is below par at this time ( Just look at pathetic state of iLeague where apart from Some teams like East Bengal , Palian Arrows and Lajong who play quality football others are just pushovers.

Short height should be compensated by exceptional talent. Messi, Iniesta Xavi are all fantastic magicians with the ball. All they ever did was play football. Its what I mean. Its hard to find exceptionally talented players in India. They are born but not in India. But you can make good tall talented players and its after all a team game.

maradona may not be tall but most of his team mates were. This helps maradona scoring goals and also setting up goals for his team. height is definately required to get good headers above te defenders in physically demanding game like football.

Have you checked the I-league team positions ?

On your second point:
Forwards/strikers are shortest and defenders/goal keepers are tallest in a foot ball team.Short people cand dribble and move fast in the opposition goal mouth whereas defenders need height to tackle/deflect attacks..

Yeah true only in iLeage its like this. But do you think a Jeje or Chettri can dribble past a Carlos Puyol or Pique. Its like Cargo Container vs Maruti Mini 800

Football played by top guns Dempo, Churchill Brothers is barbaric to say the least. I have followed games of iLeague and from what i have seen only these 3 teams play good quality possession football with a great degree of accuracy rather than stroke of luck.

This is very good news for Indian football. I wish Chhetri loads of success. His success will invite other clubs to look at the Indian football talent and think of getting them in their clubs. This will encourage more and more people to endorse football.
