Spain are champs indeed!
by Srinivasan Krishna on Jul 02, 2012 01:23 PM  | Hide replies

In a Final like the Euro 2012 it all boils down to strategy, tactics, team compositions and execution of all these put together.
Spain had experienced the Italian game in their group league match, found that possession football is something two can play at and Italy are a good defensive side. in that league game Italy neutralised Xavi, Iniesta and Silva very effectively.
Spain tightened up the midfield, attacked from the word go ( usually the goal scored first leads to victory more often than not)and did not hesitate to defend stoutly. the goals of Silva and Alba were resultants of this tactics.
While Italians forgot their main strength is defending and crowding out attackers!!!
they got carried away by their victory over Germany, whose defenders Hummel, Stuber, Boeteng et al are relatively inexperienced and could be easily beaten. But Alonso, Ramos, Busket et all are too tough and seasoned!
Iker did make a couple of good saves, but any shot from outside the box has only 2% success as experinec has shown! also, Italians though good ball passers, did not exhibit the same control and intensity to retain possession. I have seen 10 men teams win after being a few goals down also. but Italians were well beaten yesterday evening by spain...
Esapnia Ole Ole !!!!

In was seeing baiching bhutia's comments while the match was going on - he was perfect in stating the fact that in big matches u need to convert the moments of ur dominance into goals...Italy dominated after spain's first goal for 10 minutes or so and then again in the first 10 mins of the second half when de natalia had quite few chances..but their shots were straight at casillas and just couldnt penetarte spanish defence by not so Tiki-taka football inside penalty box .. spain on the contrary convered their possession and dominance in the game into goals..thats the difference..if italy could have made 1-1 or 2-1 the match would have been different...

Spain was excellent never showed the slightest fear of Italy, it was evident who would win from the first 15 minutes itself. Italy had gone into a shell, not knowing how to play a game of football, Gaps were too many and frantic saves were a bit too much for italy, nevertheless Italy as football supremo is gone for ever, if they do not fight as a team, no team will ever win a game if it does not put its heart in it. Italy did not show the slightest efforts to score a goal. their passing was odd, too far, and most were single dribbling rather than Spain which attacked in doubles, had short passes, and had a target ahead. If any team follows these simple rules it is sure to win any game.

Are you a beat constable or something? :-) If yes, I'm proud that our police force has become too modern and tech savvy.

Their one touch passing, swift moves and adept shooting was terrific. Their goalkeeper made so many crucial saves, which otherwise could have swung the match, he has proved he is the best. Fitness and the team had done their homework, played to a plan.

Ballotelli was there in the airfor headers, but the goalkeeper always beat him to it by diverting the ball. And the first goal, what a pass inwards perfectly placed for the powerful header leaving goalkeeper Buffon with no chance. A practiced move!

does not matter, spain won convincingly...in short they routed italy in all departments, the italian defence was left big cracks which spain exploited..for once I wished Germans had reached the finals, the storey should have been different..

You played football or one of the many experts who know EVERYTHING.And you are SO HUNG UP ON CRICKET that you had NO OTHER COMPARATOR but guys like Dhoni.Balottelli IS IN THE TEAM AS AN INDIVIDUAL GO-GETTER and his singular speciality is DOING THINGS ON HIS OWN.FYI.Lastly Spain COMPLETELY outclassed Italy.Thats the point.
