Too much hyped
by jamalian on Aug 13, 2012 07:23 PM

Sushil Kumar has done it again and even better this time with the silver. It was plain luck that the Japanese won.The Japanese himself did not expect the gold and he admitted that his strength alone is not something that can win him a medal,it was a combo of many things and luck is one of them.Sushil is a hero he is humble and down to earth.A perfect gentleman.Cheers Sushil you are the best.Mary Kom is living legend. She had to enter the 51kgs weight category in order to participate in the Olympic even though she is 48kgs.Unfortunately there is no 48 kg category in the Olympic. The lady had to work to put on the extra kilos just to be eligible.Contestants from the 51 kgs are taller and stronger physically which is a disadvantage to Mary and others. She fought her way and got the country a bronze. If you notice in the medal ceremony she was the tiniest and shortest of them.Sushil and Mary will never be forgotten and they will remain heroes of 2012 London Olympic.Fantastic job by Vijay, Saina,Gagan and the other wrestler who fought his way to bronze. There were others who gave their best and was so close to winning.Everyone did their best. Before the Olympic there was too much hype and publicity and the country was made to believe that the Olympians will bring bag of medals. The London Olympic is over and the Olympians are back without the bag of medals.Better luck nest time in 2016 Brazil

we are best at laziest things
by Steve Andrews on Aug 13, 2012 06:56 PM  | Hide replies

See what we are best at, laziest sports:
Shooting
Boxing
Wrestling
Cricket (Only batsmen do best, standing and hitting sixes, fours, no bowlers of world reputation)
Yoga (Laziest exercise, I am not critizing it)
IT Industry (Work of lazy people, Even I am into IT)
Chess
So the conclusion is we should look for lazy sports and try to master those.

track and field, swimming will be difficult for us.

India improving
by Venugopalan on Aug 13, 2012 02:52 PM

gone are the days when we used to send a large continent and come with one or two medals..now the quantity has increased..which is a good sign..true, more has to be done, but we have woken up, Wrestling, shooting, archery, badminton, boxing AREAS needS to be encouraged, here we can become stronger if not strongest..but there is hope, with right encouragement...cricket is not the ONLY sport we can shine..as for hockey we need to start all over again..

CHINA WON EVERYTHING ON ITS OWN
by prajyoth pradeep on Aug 13, 2012 12:02 PM  | Hide replies

The Olympics started in Ancient Greece.. Athens. It is a ceremony which consisted of games set up by European countries also followed now in the American west. It consists MOSTLY games in which western countries have been participating from a long time and are traditionally good at. Swimming consists of the maximum no.of medals. Other events have few medals. In Table Tennis, Hockey, Badminton, wrestling you have to win tournaments that is many matches to win a single medal.
Imagine if in track & field they handed out a medal in the 100m for running, running backward, hopping and skipping. That’s essentially what happens in swimming.
Maybe every sport should start handing out medals like this; right now the Olympics give out about 300 something medals; why not make it 1,000? Incidentally, of those 302 medals, swimming gives out 96: Almost a third!
SEE its all made to suit these countries.
PLUS the African Americans become Americans once in four years... when they win medals for America. Even countries like Netherlands, Denmark etc.. you have players of African origin for track and field and Chinese players for badminton and Table tennis.
SO just imagine in a sporting event full of sports traditionally followed by western countries and which have different medal policies. China being the leader.. Also small but advanced countries like South Korea and Japan coming in 5th or 6h places!

Your stats and observation is completely wrong.
Olympics in all has 304 gold medals and out of that Swimming has 34 and Atheletics including high Jump and all has 47. The 96 which you are saying is including silver, and bronze and that if we include then the total count of medal in olympics goes upto 950 as wrestling and boxing has two broze for each category.
Infact every event has sufficient Medals inclusing boxing and wrestling. Even in Swimming you have to be best and qualify for final, it is not like there is direct final.
Badminton, Hockey, and many more are not western games. Please read and go through all games before making analysis.
Even India has a tradition of rowing, cycling, Swimming, running and all that. This are common across world.Just because we are not investing in sport and don't compete doesn't mean you should blame others or pin point useless things.

Also China's medal haul is more all round. It has won medals in Table Tennis, Badminton, Diving, Weightlifting. Where as for the US the major medals came only from Swimming and now track and field from African Americans who become Americans only once in four years.... when they get Olympics medals for their country.

REWARDS FOR THE OLYMPIANS
by PRAKASH DESAI on Aug 13, 2012 11:20 AM

It is time we should also honour our Hockey players for it is a big achievement to come last in an event which we used to dominate in the past. They are the real heroes as it takes a lot of effort to acieve this and they should be suitably rewarded

We Indians
by Prasad Raj on Aug 13, 2012 09:57 AM

I was a proud Indian.But not any more !!!
I visited few Europe and then understood what how a system works. What the gov is doing
for their people. What kind of facilities they are providing for their citizens.
From there i learnt the human values.

India with this many people and this many income in the country where do stand ?
Where the whole money is going ?

We dont have a proper stadium for any sports other than Cricket. Because Cricket is
money making even for Govt.

Dear all Indians I must say we are living and growing in the most pathetic conditions.

You can argue with me sating few african countires. But we have got independence more than 65 years back and indian gov is making more than enough money to run the system.

Just wondering when will our country have a minimum basic living condtion?
